PG related nerve issues?

I had really bad sciatic pain with both pregnancies, and now when I sit for a little while and then stand up, most of the toes on my left foot go numb for a while. I think it must be related since I new had this issue before. Anyone know if this is something to be concerned about? Or had this happen to them?

Re: PG related nerve issues?

  • This is "normal" after experiencing it during pregnancy. It has to do with the muscle memory. There are some great stretches I could show you and there is also a few other self massages tricks that you can do. It has to do with the pirifomis muscle being over tightened and causing pressure on the siatic nerve. It is something that can be taken care of pretty easily if you remember to stretch.

  • I have had this with both children.  I currently cannot feel the bottoms of my feet or toes.  At the height of my pregnancy with Will, that extended all the way up my legs to my waist.  The particular nerve it is pinching controls the sensations in the skin.  If you were to prick my foot, I do feel that once you're past the epidural layer.

With both kids - it eventually went away.

  • I had sciatica from a back injury and this happened... it would happen standing up or running, not sitting, but the same thing -- one or several of my toes would go numb.  It has not returned since the injury healed.

  • I have the exact same thing, I also had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel and still get numbness in my hands sometimes.
