Cribs vary so much in price and quality... definitely depends on what you're looking to buy.
We bought the Pali Emilia Forever crib in cherry. We saw it in person at Baby Furniture Warehouse in Braintree and were going to order it there... but they couldn't guarantee it would be delivered any earlier than 14 weeks (and the baby was due in 12 at the time...) We ended up buying it from csnstores.com and had it in 5 weeks (it was in their warehouse in Canada, took 10 days to get to the shipping company and the rest of the time was the super slow delivery co).
I read a lot of reviews in the book Baby Bargains. It gives a lot of good info on what to look for. No drop sides, and hardwood cribs (as opposed to softer woods or particle board) are recommended. Each of the major brands is also reviewed. It's also how I found out about Baby Furniture Warehouse, which was definitely worth the drive.
We bought the Baby Cache Espresso Bliss Lifetime Crib & matching Dresser Combo from BRU. Recommended by Baby Bargains and mid price range. I love them--super sturdy and real furniture!
After months of reading, asking around, and looking at nursery sets in person we just bought the Munire Taylor collection. A few of my friends have Munire cribs and love them. It was mid price range, and converts to a toddler and full size bed. We got the matching dresser/changer combo, and an additional 5-drawer dresser. Should be plenty for a while :-) I wouldn't buy anything really cheap, because when those peanuts start to really move around you don't wanna walk in and see your crib swaying. Good luck!
