I'm new here and just trying to figure some stuff out. We're about ready to start TTC and I have just stopped taking BC, but would like to go a couple of months to figure out my cycle before officially trying. This sounds like a stupid question, but have others used other types of BC while in this waiting phase? It seems a little silly to actively try to stop it when we're gearing up to start trying. At the same time, I would kinda like to wait a couple months. Not sure what to do...
Re: Off BC but not "officially trying"

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It can answer most of your questions. You can also use condoms.
Best of luck.
I would use a back-up method of birth control until you are 100% ready to TTC. Since you haven't figured out your cycles yet, you won't really know when you are ovulating/about to ovulate.
My DH and I planned to start trying a couple months after I stopped taking the pill but went ahead knowing it could very well happen sooner. We didn't use another type of BC because I despise condoms and wasn't interested in looking into other barrier methods. We weren't against getting pregnant immediately so I wasn't worried about it.
If you're absolutely opposed to getting pregnant before you start trying I'd use condoms or another barrier method. If you lurk on this board you'll see that getting pregnant can be a long process but it can also be a very quick process. It's really just up to your and your DH to decide what will work for you.
ETA: Also my cycle seemed to go right back to normal after one month of being of BCP. Obviously everyone is different but it may happen sooner than you expect. GL!
Agreed.

I'm right there with ya. I've been off BCP for over a year. We used to use condoms all the time, but now that I have been charting and learning more about my body we've just been using the pull-out method when it's during my fertile window. We'll be officially trying in 2 months. Wanting, but waiting is the WORST so I feel your pain.
Start charting TODAY (go to Walgreens and buy a BBT and CBEDOPK) and GL!
I hope you get your BFP when you're ready!
PS- We would be OK if we got pregnant now so the pull-out method is fine for us. If you are 100% not ready for a baby, make sure you use condoms.

My BFP Chart:
Books read in 2012: 21/50
CP - October 2011 (5 weeks and 6 days) BFP Sept 2012 (Round 3 of Clomid) M/C - October 2012 (9 weeks w/ no dev. after 5 weeks) BFP - December 2012 - Only 6 weeks after M/C!
This. During my last cycle, FF changed the date it thought I ovulated two times. The first date it picked was CD9, and the last date it picked was CD17. So if I was trying to avoid getting pregnant and thought that I'd ovulated on day 9, I might've gotten pregnant after I thought I was "safe." Definitely start charting to start getting familiar with your cycle, but don't use charting as a method of birth control just yet.
Welcome, and good luck!
My DH are not actively trying either. I have been off BC for over 18 months. We have been using condoms and the PO method once and a while. With timing we were going to try this past march. But now we are waiting until next march or when God blesses us with a LO. Good Luck to you. Use whichever method works best for you and your hubby. You just need to be aware of your body and educate yourself. read up on NFP it is a good start to informing yourself about effect sex practices to get pregnant and not to get pregnant!
*effective* not effect!
