was there a point that you decided to change formula due to cost?

I use Gerber good start. i get hardly any checks/coupons in the mail and it's costing us around $280 a month!

a friend of mine said she got hers from sams club and it was like $80 a month!!

I'm thinking of slowing easing them into a cheaper brand but scared that it'll backfire on us.

Any suggestions?

    We would change of the point of a can and they never had any issues.  I'd add just a little for the first 1/2 of the day (keep in mind a small can would last us 2 day), add a little more 2/2 of the day, next morning add a bit more, and by the end of the 2nd day it would be mostly new formula (they started with similac that we got as samples in the mail and from the hospital.  I don't think I needed to do that because they were always on Enfamil powder at home but we always had Similac RTF in the car and they never had tummy troubles when they'd have the Similac even though they normally had Enfamil.  I really liked the Target brand formula, they have some JUMBO cans (larger than the "large") for like $18/can and it was the cheapest we found and would last about 5 days or so.

    We started with Similac and I was so tired of paying that much for formula so we switched to Up&Up (Target brand) and looooved it! We had to try a few different types (sensitive stomach etc.) to find the right one but once we did the girls were much happier and so was I!! I definitely suggest giving it a try for a couple days! And it wouldn't hurt to mix the good start and whatever new brand you try so that its not such a big change for their tummies! Good Luck!

    Well, why are you on the Gerber good start in the first place?

    We started out on Neosure (high calorie for preemies).  One boy switched to Enfamil AR to help with his reflux.  Then when we got the green light to feed regular formula we switched to Costco brand for the other two.  That was around 1.5 months old.

    My reflux baby has not had any reflux symptoms in months so we decided to try to switch him to the Costco as well a few weeks ago and the transition went fine.  He is still on his relux meds and I plan to talk to the pedi on Monday at the 6 month visit about trying to wean him from those as well.

    They've been on private label for as long as I can remember, (definitely within the first month - as soon as we realized the savings from switching to private label). They were both on Costco's Kirkland brand but it seemed to be causing DD to be constipated. She is on the Sam's Gentle now and has been doing great.

    I don't have any suggestions, other than "Do it! You'll save a lot of $$!" We pay about $80/month for their formula as well. Fortunately they'll be switching to whole milk soon.

    GL with your decision. They may take a little while to transition into a different brand. DS has done well on Kirkland brand all along but we did have to do a little trial and error w/ DD. HTH!

    We switched to Kirkland (Costco) after Similac was recalled and loved it even more than Similac.  The girls did SO well on it!  And it was a lot cheaper.

    After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

    My girls were supplemented with NeoSure until they were 6 months- CHA CHING!  At 6 months I switched b/c the cost was through the roof and I was going to replace some  nursing sessions with formula.  I moved to the Target brand and they had ZERO problems.

    If it makes you feel better, we spend over $500/month. Crying It hurts just to type that. My boys are on Nutramigen. I want to switch them but my memories of how horrible it used to be to feed them scare me so much that I'm keeping them on it until 9 months. That's when my pedi said their reflux should improve a lot. If my kids had no weird feeding issues they'd be on generic fo'sho.

    We switched Enfamil GentleEase to Target GentleEase when they were about 8 months.  I just switched cold turkey and they were fine.  It was definitely the cost that drove me to make the switch and thankfully they didn't seem to notice.

    I say give it a try!

    We switched from Similac Advance to Target's Up & Up version and we've had no problems.  Even with sales and formual checks, the Target brand is still cheaper.  Just give it try and see if it works!
