Is this a growth spurt?

The last couple weeks LO has been wanting to eat every 3 hours pretty regularly during the day - 4 hours at night. But the last couple days she was eating every 2 hours exactly. And it wasn't just that she fussed a little, she was screaming wanting to eat every two hours on the nose. At first I thought she was gassy or cranky, but then I would feed her and she would be fine. Then last night, before i went to bed around 9:30, I BF her. DH usually gives her a bottle around 11:30 or midnight when she wakes up again, but last night she didn't wake up until 3am. I BF her, not knowing that she never woke up for her 11:30-midnight feeding. She was not that interested in eating and only fed for about 10 minutes. I tried to wake her and feed her but she was spitting it back up so I just put her back to bed. I was worried when DH told me this morning she slept through her feeding last night but she seems fine now. And already she seems to be back on a 3 hour feeding schedule. Does this sound like a normal growth spurt? She's just over 4 weeks now. It was nice to get the extra sleep last night but of course I'm worried something is wrong.

Re: Is this a growth spurt?

  • Yes, many babies like to eat and sleep a lot during growth spurts. And of course sometimes they just change up their schedules on a whim to mess with us.

  • Sounds normal.  Also, DD started sleeping for much longer stretches at 3 or 4 weeks, so maybe this is a sign of good things to come!  Pedi said it was fine just to let her sleep after she was back up to her birth weight.
  • sounds normal.  DH called me earlier to ask if I fed DS breakfast this morning b/c an hour later he was scarfing down more food!  And he's been real tired - so I think we're going through another growth spurt.
  • Sounds about right to me. Also, LO got his days and nights figured out right about the same time as his 3-week growth spurt, so that resulted in longer sleep. Enjoy it!
