Formula Feeders-come in!

Hi!  I am transitioning from BF to FF and have found that making and cleaning the bottles can be quite time consuming.

Any tips?

I have Dr. Brown's bottles and use the dishwasher basket on occasion.  We mostly hand was and dry on a bottle drying rack.

What about a formula pitcher?  Dispenser (what is the point of this)?

TIA

  • we use the Dr Browns formula pitcher when we are making bottles for daycare since they need to be premade...it's a HUGE time saver.  but when we are around the house, I just make them as needed.

  • I wish I could give you some advice here, but bottles are just a pain in the a$$!  My SIL uses Dr. Brown's & I have found that type of bottle is a little more difficult to clean than some other brands.  I don't know if switching bottle brands is an option, but it might help.

  • Washing bottles is the worst!  We actually switched to Avent bottles because there are not as many peicesas the Dr. Brown's.  We love them.  Something I like to do while on the go is have a bottle with water in it already in the diaperbag.  Then when LO needs a bottle, use the formula dispenser to add the formula.  Its quick, I don't need to hunt down water if Im somewhere where I can't get a bottle of water and the water just warms up to room temp by the time I need it.

  • I use the Playtex bottles with disposable inserts because I'm old skool like that BUT, I was wondering if you could still prepare the Dr. Brown's bottles with water for the entire day like we do? Basically, I pour 7 oz. of water in the bottles and put the nipples and lids on. Then I portion out the formula into sectioned plastic tubs that have a dispenser lid. When it's time to feed DS, I mix the formula in the tub with the water in the bottle and it's ready easy peasy! I have 8 bottles total so they last all day/night. Each night, I clean and prepare the bottles and formula for the next day.

  • We love our Dr. Brown's pitcher for making the batch for daycare.  On the weekends, we just make a pitcher for the day and pour out of that. DS will drink cold formula so this is the easiest method.  50/50 on dishwasher or handwash.  I also soak my bottles in hot soapy water for a few minutes before handwashing.   I don't like running a half load just to do bottles. We pre-fill his bottles with water if we are going to be out and keep a formula dispenser in the diaper bag.

  • The formula pitchers are so you can make a days worth and have it ready to go so all you have to do is pour, instead of measuring and scooping.  Very helpful if you baby is like mine and eats an odd number of ounces (7).

But we use the ready to feed right now.  He is on the Similac Sensitive for Spit up and it isn't availabe in powder right now, and Wal-Mart has them marked really low ($3.88 a bottle).

As far as the bottles go, it's just a pain.  Have enough for at least 2 days worth.  During the day (or at the end of the day after daycare) they get washed and loaded into the dish washer.

  • We use Dr. Brown's bottles because they are the best I have found for my gassy boy.  Washing all of the parts is time consuming but I have it down to a science.  I also have the Dr. Brown's drying racks and everything stacks nice and neat.

I use the Dr. Brown's formula pitcher to make a daily batch of formula.  For on the go I use a formula dispenser and Munchkin makes an battery powered formula stirrer that I use.  It is great because it mixes the formula and water with minimal bubles.   If I shake LO's bottles they get too many bubbles which leads to super gassy unhappy baby.

This.  Dr Browns formula pitcher rocks my world. :) I just make a batch of bottles each night, for the next day.

This.  Except I fill the bottles with formula and just keep a bottle of water with me.

  • I use the Dr. Brown's bottles and wash them daily using the Dr. Brown's drying rack. It's super easy and then when I run the dishwasher I put the bottles and pieces in the dishwasher too.
