Tell me about dry cleaning prices

DH and I used a dry cleaner this week, for the first time. (Yes, ever.)  I picked up the clothes yesterday and felt a little surprised by the cost.  I guess I thought it would be a little cheaper, but I have no comparison.  I don't know how often we'll use one, considering we never had until now.  But DH's job is requiring him to wear suits or dress clothes a little more often now, so we may be.

Is there a typical price range for things like men's shirts or pants?  The cleaners we used has a sign stating that shirts are done for 99 cents.  We had 4 prs of men's pants cleaned and it cost about $4/pair.  Does that sound pretty normal?

Re: Tell me about dry cleaning prices

  • That actually sounds cheap! I am always surprised by the prices as well for some reason. But I love getting clothes from the cleaners.

  • The $0.99 mens shirt deal is actually for laundering and pressing the shirts - they don't dry clean them.   $4 for pants sounds right though.   I hate spending money on dry cleaning.  Almost none of my clothes need it since I'm a schlump.  :)

  • $4 per pair of pants?  I might have to drive up your way for that deal!

I spend way too much on dry cleaning.  I can often get shirts pressed for $1 though and to me, that's worth it!

  • I just had some sweaters dry cleaned for the first time in at least a year. At $6.25 a piece it was not cheap. $4 a pair sounds like a bargain to me.
  • $4 is a good deal. I pay $6 a pair for pants and sweaters. It sucks, too, because I have a lot of dry-clean only work clothes.

  • Wow!  Ok, thanks for the feedback.  I guess we'll consider ourselves lucky at $4/pr of pants. :-)

I don't own anything that I need to dry clean, these days.  In the past, I've bought and used the home dry cleaning stuff for dressier work clothes.

    Thanks, ladies!

  • I used to think the same thing that it was only .99 to dryclean shirts.  I do hate it how at least all the dry cleaners I go to never seems to have their prices posted!
