Change bed time schedule (toddlers)?

Since the girls have been down to one nap (around 11 mo. or so), they've been going to bed at 8 pm and waking up around 6:30-7am. I just did the math and realized that for 10 days now, they've been going to bed around 8 pm or even 8:30 and waking up at 5 am?!?!?

Should I try putting them down later, at like 9 pm? This seems late. They take a pretty much clockwork nap from 12:30 to 2:30/3 pm every afternoon. Should I adjust the nap schedule?

I just can't deal with the 5 am thing. They end up going down for a solid nap but by the end of the day, I am so run down from getting up so early that I really don't want to make the 5 am wake-up a new habit. DH has been getting up for me with them for the past 5 days but I don't want him to have to get up that early either...

Any tips???

TIA!!

  • I would pull up their bedtime, to 7 or 7:30, actually.  They might be overtired, and "sleep begets sleep."  9 pm is WAY too late of a bedtime for a toddler.  Your nap schedule seems perfect.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I completely agree with kimarino.  Put them to bed earlier, and they will sleep longer.  It's weird how it works that way, but it always does.

  • Ditto pp. Try putting them to bed around 7/7:30pm. If you don't think they'll sleep at 7pm because they're used to an 8pm bedtime, then start shifting their bedtime earlier by 15 minutes until you get to 7pm. GL!
