All day trip with baby...I'm scared!

DH wants to go to the city tomorrow with J and I'm SUPER nervous about being gone from the house all day.  We've only been out for a few hours at a time up so far.  I'm worried about having everything we'll need and making sure that he gets at least some short naps so he's not fussy.  Any tips for being gone all day?  Talk me down from my anxiety!!

  • I don't know if you are ff or bf mama, but if you bf, you don't need to bring anything for that, unless you are nervous about being in public and then just bring a cover, or even a thin baby blanket will do! I bf'ed so I have no idea how much formula you need.

at 4 months, my kiddo slept anywhere and anytime. If you are using a stroller, make sure it reclines for nap time, of if you have a car seat adapter for it, use that for sure!

If you are baby wearing, make sire you bring the hood to the carrier to help the head position when sleeping.

I'd bring  a hat if it's going to be sunny. and 2 changes of clothes for lo and enough diapers for the day. :)

Relax and have fun. It's easy at this age!

  • Thank you!  I know we'll be fine, there's just the anxiety of all the "what ifs" and "do I have enough diapers, clothes, formula" you know?  Ahh...it'll be fine and good for us to get out together for awhile!

  • Are you taking a car? My friend taught me about the containers in the trunk system. Or you could use bags. Stock your diaper bag as usually but have a bin on bag with extra diapers, one with extra formula (sealed), one with extra clothes, one with extra clothes for you, extra jackets, etc. Basically anything and everything you could ever need. That way you aren't lugging everything on your person but if you need something, you can just go back to the car and get it.

  • I hope you are on your way to a great day out with your family!  You will be fine! Everything you could possibly need you can buy if you forget it and then you will have a mental note of what not to forget next time.  Have fun!

  • It will totally be fine.  I wish I'd done more outings when DS was that little.  He hated the car so we limited them but in reality, he was super easy to transport and we could have gone out and had more fun. :)

My only extra tip is to bring an extra change of clothes for YOU.  DS had a habit in those days of either spitting up all over me or have a poop explosion and then I'd be stuck in dirty clothes while he was fresh and clean in his back up clothes.

  • Have a great time!!! :)  I love the advice that there is always a drugstore around the corner.  So key. :)
