Maternity Clothes

Where were/are your favorite places to shop for maternity clothes?

I have all of my stuff from my pregnancy with Madison, but I'm pregnant in a different season, so a lot of my stuff isn't going to work this time.

I have a few new things from Old Navy, but I'm not crazy about what they have in the store right now.

I'm also looking for some cute maternity dresses.  My BFF's are taking me to Palm Springs for Memorial Day weekend and it's going to be HOT.

Thanks!

  • Most of my Old Navy and Motherhood shirts are too short in front to keep wearing, but my Gap shirts still fit. I think I would have purchased more of my maternity clothes from Gap if I had know how things would fit near the end of pregnancy. I never had any luck with maternity dresses so I can't recommend any.

  • I'm interested in what places people suggest.  I'm definitely encountering the same issue and I really want some cute stuff (yet I don't want to spend a lot of $ on it either as I won't use it again).

  • I'm really liked Ann Taylor Loft Maternity.  They run 40% off sales fairly often.  I don't like that you have to order online without trying it on though.

  • Ann Taylor Loft has cute maternity stuff--it's pricier than ON and Motherhood but I picked up a few nicer pieces there to mix with other stuff for work.

There is a Motherhood outlet in Petaluma--I checked it out and I had to dig but I found some cute stuff there.  There is also a Motherhood outlet in Vacaville and I think they had a better selection but it could have just been a hit or miss kind of thing.  Their clearance racks had designer jeans and stuff because the outlet carriers their pea in a pod lines.

As for dresses, most of my "maternity" dresses are regular summer dresses in a bigger size...in forgiving fabrics of course :)

  • ON and Target were my go-to.  I think I heard that H&M  has a maternity line!

  • A friend just turned me on to the tank tops by Liz Lange for Target. They're only 9.99 and I love them! They're really long (to last to the end), stretchy, and cover the girls well up top.

Other than that, no idea... I am having the same problem and need to look around. Old Navy seems to have a good selection online.

  • I've shopped mostly at Motherhood but I usually am cringing by the time I leave because they are so expensive. I also bought a couple of items from ON and Burlington Coat Factory.

  • I've only ever found ON stuff online, the stores never have much- at least not near me. I liked Motherhood too, but never bought much from them, and also wasn't crazy about the quality. I know a lot of people love Target's stuff. How about consignment shops?

  • It's been a while... but when I was shopping, I LOVED Burlington Coat Factory at he Great Mall in Milpitas. I'm not sure if they have one near you but there were some killer deals on maternity clothes. I'm talking $5 shirts, $10 jeans.

The other trick is to look for empire cut tops at normal stores. I found a bunch of super cute tank tops at Urban Outfitters on the clearance rack. They were made out of a stretch material with the empire/a-line cut to them so even though they weren't branded maternity, they fit and looked beyond awesome. I think those ranged from $10-$15 each.

I also went to stores with resort wear and looked at dresses because a lot of "cover up" style dresses are halter top and a-line/empire cut. So again, just because it wasn't branded maternity didn't mean I couldn't wear it. I swear that if they stick the name maternity on something it doubles or triples the price.

    Great ideas ladies.  Thanks!

  • I found most of my maternity clothes at the Vacaville Motherhood Maternity outlet. However, most of my maternity clothes were geared towards work and it was winter.

The maternity selection at nearby Targets and Old Navys were tiny (if I could even locate the section) and not always something I could wear to work. I did find a sweater at Kohls once... but it seemed like the prices were similar to MM but lower quality.

I was too afraid to shop Gap and Old Navy online - I had no idea what size I should get and wanted to try everything on first. If you go the online route, be sure to check the store's return policies so that you're not paying to ship returns back. I love when I can return online purchases to nearby stores :)

  • Old Navy and Gap, mostly Gap!

  • Not sure if I'm much help, but a lot of my maternity wardrobe were regular tops from Marshalls/Ross/TJMaxx just in a bigger size.  Cotton/spandex blends were my BFF!  It also helped that tunic-style tops were in style when I was PG.

My favorite "maternity" dress again was a regular maxi dress.

    Good Luck!

  • I have  HUGE bag of stuff Jess. With Dylan I had to buy different things. We should meet up and you can look through what I have ;-)
