Question about cleaning services

My husband bought a Groupon for three hours of cleaning services from Royalty Cleaning, and I just scheduled them to come out tomorrow. So, for those of you that use or have used a cleaning service in the past, how much did you tip? The woman that scheduled implied that tipping is normal (which I had no idea about, since we've never used one before), otherwise I might have forgotten entirely. There are three people coming to clean, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Question about cleaning services

  • I've never tipped for cleaning service. I might do it at the holidays, but I never have for normal service....

  • Same here. I don't think I've ever tipped except around Christmas. Then again I always tip housekeeping when I travel so I'm not sure what to think so my post is now worthless. Enjoy your clean house!

  • I never tip (aside from a Christmas bonus), and would never use a company who expects it.  That is sooo wrong.  I would leave them the fee they are charging, and not a dime more.  Then I would find a more reputable company for future cleans.  I know that sounds harsh, but tipping is not the norm in that industry, and the fact that they said that to you before you even have seen their work is a red flag.  Use the Groupon, and fire them promptly.

  • I don't tip, but that's mostly because my cleaning lady is self employed. If you are using a service wherein the persons rendering service are not the owners of the company (and, therefore, will not be collecting the sum total of the amount you are paying for services), I *might* be inclined to tip for an extraordinary job done. To me, it's just like getting your hair done, a pedicure, eating out, etc. Not required, but it would be nice.
