I eventually want to donate BM to the Austin Milk Bank, however, how old can it be and does it have to be fresh or frozen. If it can be frozen, how old frozen? If anyone knows let me know, thank you.
I'd follow the same storage rules as if I was storing for myself... 3 months. Mom's that are getting donated milk go through it fast since they arent adding new milk every day like the donor mom does, there is probably little chance that something you donate would have any chance of going bad.
I worked at the milk bank in Austin for three years right when it opened. The screening is no big deal. We always accepted milk before screening; I'd be surprised if they changed that policy.
I personally would never do public donation as the liability is too much.
Just call the milk bank for any specific questions. They will be more than happy to help you. They have a few drop off locations in the houston area.
The milk collected is put into freezers, so 99% of the time the donated milk came in frozen form. When I was there they would take milk in a regular freezer 3 months old and a deep freezer that was 6 months old. Your baby has to be one year in age or less.
Re: Donating BM
The banks are going to require screening.
Consider private donation. Several of us have found mom's needing milk using milkshare https://milkshare.birthingforlife.com/
