Travel Systems: Worth it?

We originally planned on getting a Graco Travel System and a Maclaren Quest Sport stroller and now I am wondering if the travel system is worth it? Any experiences/tips appreciated and along with car set recs.  TIA

Re: Travel Systems: Worth it?

  • Some people like them but I would skip the travel system.  There are so many other great strollers out there that are car seat compatible.    For a car seat, I love my Chicco Keyfit 30.

  • No, I wish that I had known better when I was registering. I would have gone with a snap-n-go and the car seat with DD. This time around, I sold the travel system stroller, and bought a snap-n-go.

  • i would skip on the travel system. there are much better strollers out there. many of the good strollers are car seat compatible. we got the uppababy vista stroller and the chicco key fit 30. and are happy with our decision.

  • I have a Graco Travel system, and love it.  I don't have anything to compare it to though...  I know that many complaints are that they are bulky and heavy, but I don't really have a problem.  It is one hand to open and close it, and although it is a bit bulky, it really isn't much heavier than the carrier +baby (if even that much).  I usually just leave mine in my car, so there isn't much transporting of it anyway.

  • Not a fan!  I think they are bulky/heavy - I babysit my friends' kids & they all have them so I have experience w/ them.  We bought a snap n go on Craigs List for $30...used it the other day w/ my friends' 2 mo. old & loved it!
  • Thank you all, this is helpful!
  • Def skip the travel system. Everyone I know who bought one, hated it. We got a snap 'n go, and we used it for the first 7 months. Then we invested in a BJCM.

  • OP, I would just go ahead and register for the Maclaren Quest (great stroller!), but instead of the travel system, just register for the infant car seat and snap & go. You will be MUCH happier with your decision!

  • If you're going to get a Quest, then just get a snap-n-go for the carseat- the additional stroller is pointless and you'll be much happier with a lightweight, easy to manuever Quest than the other options (Graco, Chicco) that are much bigger, heavier, and cumbersome.

  • Skip the travel system, it's a case of quantity over quality.  Most of the strollers with these sets are crap and people end up buying a better stroller within the first few months.  Here's what we have and so far we love everything:

Infant carseat - Chicco Keyfit 30

    Convertible carseat - Britax Boulevard

    Main Stroller - Uppababy Vista

Travel/umbrella stroller - Baby Jogger City Mini

  • Definitely skip the travel system! I wish I would have listened to one of my friends when I was pregnant. It is heavy, bulky, & takes up waaaaay too much space. I use my Bumbleride Indie with its car seat adapter bar if DD is sleeping or I don't want to take her out of her seat..... Yes, a big all terrain stroller takes up about 1/2 the space folded up that the travel system one does... BTW, I have the Chicco travel system w/ the Cortina & Key Fit 30...

  • I have a Graco "travel system" (carseat with matching Metrolite stroller), and I have used it very little.  The Metrolite is a great stroller with good cupholders and a basket, and we use it when we go for walks in the neighborhood.  But for me, I use a stroller most to go on short trips into stores, etc.  And the Graco is on the heavy side and a little cumbersome to get in and out of even my large SUV.  What I do use 90% of the time is a Baby Trend Snap n Go.  It's just a carseat frame -- it's SUPER lightweight, and you can open and shut it with one hand.  Plus it would easily fit into even a small car's trunk.  It will accept almost any carseat, and it makes getting the baby in and out of the car so easy and fast.  It has two cupholders, plus another compartment in the handle for things like your cell phone, credit card, keys, etc.  It doesn't have wheels as big as the Graco, so that's why I don't use it for walks -- the suspension isn't as good.  But for running around town, it can't be beat.  And it's only about $50.  Graco also makes one just like it for about the same price.  It is my #1 recommendation for new mothers.
