Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone here fail at cloth diapering?

We cloth diaper and I just feel like I'm failing at it. I don't enjoy the work it takes, I hate dealing with E's "peanut butter poop" and trying to get it off. I've even tried biodegradable diaper liners, but they just bunch up and she still makes a mess. I wish I could just throw the diapers away half the time.

Anyone else try cloth diapering and just fail at it? Or decided to stop because they didn't like it?

I'm not sure if this sounds stupid or selfish, but I'm just absolutely hating it right now!

  • Now that she's on solids, every time she poops, I hate it. It really is like peanut butter.

    But, I carry on...

E poops like 4 times a day. I'm about to SCREAM.

I think if I had to deal with peanut butter poop 4 times a day, I'd want to scream, too. D only poops every other day to every 3 days. It's HUGE when he does, LOL. It's like a 20 minute process to get him all cleaned up. But at least it's infrequent.

  • Are you supposed to scrape off the peanut butter poops?  DD doesn't get a lot of solids (only 5 times total) but the few times it was a little thicker than the normal runny poop, I didn't do anything special, just threw it in the wash like normal.

Yup. I wanted so badly to like it, it just wasn't for me.

  • I think maybe the solids poop doesn't bother me because I started CDing after she was eating solids. I bet if I started CDing while M was just on BM or F then I would feel the same as you.

I always scrape and swoosh in the toilet. I don't want poop in my washer.

Serious?! We get a minimum of 2 peanut butter poops a day!

Seriously, can you sit her down and have a talk with her about this? I mean, I really?

I wish I had words of encouragement, but I would prob think of quitting if DD pooped that much.

The thought of how much we spent on our stash and how much sposies are keeps me going. And a few other things, but mainly that.

Seriously! He pooped all the time up until maybe 3.5 to 4 months? Then he started spacing out to once a day and since we started solids it's more like 3-4 days. He pooped on Thursday morning and didn't poop again until Monday afternoon.

And he's not constipated, as his poop isn't hard at all.

  • Sorry to hear you're struggling with it.  It's definitely not for everyone, that is for sure.  I personally haven't had many problems with it. Have you thought about getting a diaper sprayer?  I find it makes dealing with the poop SO much easier.

I have a diaper sprayer :( Half the time it just sprays the water back up in my face and makes a bigger mess. She eats 3 solid meals a day, so I do have to get it into the toilet. URRRGH! I need a drink.

  • I CDed with my DD until she started getting terrible rashes all the time with the cloth but not with disposables.  I tried to start again with DS but I just don't have the time or inclination anymore.  I have sold about half of what I have and once I can sun them, I will sell the rest.  It's not for everyone.

  • I do it, but don't love it at all. I am trying so hard not to give up. If her rash comes back when I put her back in cloth, I'm selling them all.
  • Why not just do sposies for a little while until the poop firms up?  Most of my DS's poop now it totally plop-able and barely leave a smudge on the diaper.

  • Or just do it part time. I can't keep DD's poo in sposies so this is a little backwards from you but I keep her in the CD all morning until she does her business and then go run errands and what not with disposables.

  • If by "fail" you mean "didn't even bother trying it because I know myself too well," then, yes, I have failed at it!

If it's really bothering you, there's no shame in sposies. And if you're worried about the investment, you can probably sell them.

ETA: I wasn't even going to open this thread, because I never did try CDs, but it kept floating to the top and staring at me all day. Couldn't resist. Carry on.

This! I just powered through DD's gross poop stage, but now that she eats 2 meals/day, she has totally ploppable poop and I don't have to rinse or swish or spray or anything. It's actually much less gross than when she was EBF now!

Honestly, it will get so much easier once his poop gets normal again! Hang in there!

Wow - which one do you have? I've never had that happen to me -  not fun at all!!!

  • Yes, I failed.

I lasted a day on our first try and a whole weekend on our second try.  This was all before J was 1 month old.

I feel horrible out it to this day because I REALLY wanted to like it.

  • We never had the pb poop stage. DS's poop went from the FF poop to ploppable poop literally overnight. I am only rinsing now because he is on antibiotics and has super runny poops.
