1st Trimester

Anyone else give up cooking dinner?

I get nauseous eating dinner, so I eat frozen yogurt, cereal, fruit, sometimes I can keep down pasta. Every night, DH looks longingly at the meat he has defrosted and the dishes he wants me to make (he cooks, too, but we both admit my food tastes better), but I just can't do it. I haven't cooked dinner in over 3 weeks!

  • I gave up!!!  I love to cook but I got tired of cooking and then not wanting to eat it or feeling the ill the time I was preparing. Thank goodness, my DH can cook!!!! He has been cooking a normal meal for himself and then fixing me whatever I want.

However, that was a deal breaker for me, I wanted a husband or life partner that can cook. I lived with someone for 7 years and they couldn't cook. It was exhausting having to cook each and every meal.

  • I have given up (just gave up on Sunday), just like I did last preg. The problem is that this time I have DD who needs a healthy dinner and I don't know what to do for her anymore. Cut up fruits and veggies are only going to go so far...she's gonna need some actual dinner soon and my DH refuses to cook (even though he is a culinary arts grad!) I need ideas!
  • Yep! I gave up on Sunday, although I hadn't been doing a very good job the last week or so.  The only thing I can keep down is Ramen noodles, so I make some for myself and offer DH some, but he says they are too unhealthy for him.  Luckily he is content just eating spaghetti with canned sauce pretty much every night like he did in college.

I would try to cook for him, but the smell of his food is enough to send me running to the bathroom.  (I don't feel that bad either, since we both work...I'll handle the puking, he can handle his own dinner, fair trade)

  • I gave up cooking too, I just don't feel like eating anything really.  Boyfriend can cook some things, so he does a bit here and there, but mostly I just pick at stuff and eat fresh or easy to make stuff as I crave it.  Also, eating out has been a nice treat for mommy-to-be, restaurants generally have more variety so there is at least one or two things that interest me. :)

  • It's a struggle for me too! Thank God for the crock pot - it's pretty easy to throw things in there.

For me, it's not so much the smells and m/s as it is just being incredibly tired. Either way, it's no fun, especially since my husband's cooking skills are limited to grilled cheese (which, to his credit, he is an expert at).

  • Completely gave up around 6 weeks, when my m/s got really bad.  Yesterday I finally was able to actually prepare something, but it was only salad (which I was craving)-cooking (with heat) I still just can't do.  Poor DH can't cook at all, I had to instruct him on how to make a can of condensed soup hahahah-so he has been suffering more than I have from my lack of cooking. Hope that it changes soon!

  • My poor husband says "I guess the boys are on their own". He cooks for my son and himself or he orders in.  It's the one thing I miss the most.  We follow a healthy lifestyle and I'm used to preparing and cooking all our meals. I'm hoping the nausea will ease up by the 2nd trimester!  Crock pots are great, but I got extremely nauseous when the smell overwhelmed the house.  It was thai coconut chicken too, one of my favorite foods, normally.  Take care!  This will pass. ;)

  • I have cooked supper once in the last three weeks. I have not had m/s yet but I am beyond exhausted by time I come home that all I want to do is lay on the couch and go to sleep. The one time I cooked I was too tired to clean the kitchen afterwards. Luckily DH was nice enough to clean it for me!
  • I'm been feeling so bad about not cooking!  We used to rarely order in/eat frozen food, but now its a couple of times a week.  But DH has been great, I yell out the directions from the couch (well away from all smells) and he attempts to cook dinner.  Its actually been kind of good for him I think.

  • I've given up cooking beyond heating up frozen pizza and boiling water for pasta. I can't even stand to go grocery shopping ~ not only can I not stand the look of food, especially raw meats, but I get car sick just driving there. So DH has been cooking, and bless his heart he is really good at it and has made a couple of my favorite dishes...none of which I could stand to look at, smell, or eat. There is a positive trade off for him though: he got all the chinese left overs of our favorite dish, and I actually want Taco Bell... that new taco that is in a nacho cheese dorito shell?!?! Non-pg me won't come within 10ft of a taco bell, pg me can't wait to get my hands on it!

  • I can cook vegetable or pasta dishes, but nothing with meat.  DH grills when he's got a meat craving.  Even the thought of it makes me queasy.
