AngelCare Monitors

Looking to purchase a good video monitor.  The new AngelCare looks great, though, since there is a motion detector under the mattress, I'm thinking I will need another type of monitor if baby naps in Pack 'n Play, etc.  Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: AngelCare Monitors

  • We used the Angel Care monitor w/T and really liked it - my hubby didn't like that it didn't have video, but for me the motion detector pad was more reassuring.  The only problem we had is that when she was sleeping really soundly sometimes the alarm went off.  It only happened a couple of times though and I was thankful for a false alarm and reassurance knowing it was that sensitive (you can adjust the settings too).  We never used it in our PnP so I can't speak to that.  GL!

  • Thanks.  Did you have another kind of monitor for the Pack 'n play?

  • No, for a couple reasons.  We were fortunate (!) to get a little non-sleeper.  I kid you not, we had to work super hard to get a 30 minute nap out of her from the time she was about 3 weeks old until she started walking.  Most of the time when she was really little she would only sleep ON us, so the monitor was unnecessary.  Other times we really only had her in her crib or the stroller (so we were either in the room or had her in our sight the entire time.)  Hopefully you'll get a good sleeper, but if you don't, PM me, I have tried *everything.*  Hope I am not scaring you.

  • I also chose the movement over the video. It is very nice and reasurring. I just peek at the monitor and see he little wand moving and know it is detecting movement!  There were times when I considered getting a second monitor (just sound) for the PNP but I never got around to it, and I just made sure she was either napping near me or I put her in the crib...

  • My kid is 18 months old and we still use the motion detection function on it.. he's in the bad habit of putting his blanket on his head and I don't want him to suffocate.   It does have a sound only setting which is nice, too.   Sometimes I do wish I had a video monitor, but would much rather have the motion detection.

I never had a PnP, so I can't advise you there.

  • Never used it in the playpen since she wasn't in it much & if she was, we were awake & always checking on her. We only use the Angelcare in sound now because she is all over the crib & even though we got the dual pads, she was still setting off the monitor finding the tiniest corner that the monitor couldn't detect. It'd go off & wake her up.

I do recommend getting the dual pad if you can find it somewhere because once they start crawling & rolling around you'll get alot of false alarms.

  • Oh & there was a post awhile back about regarding video monitors & predators. I just found the link in case you want to watch.

  • We have used the Angelcare monitor since day one and DD is 16 months old now. Never have had a false alarm and we use it for all naps and night sleeping. Have a video monitor also, but lately I've just been using the sound on the angelcare and not the video. Not sure when we'll stop using it. LO#2 will be here in November... Might have to buy a second monitor.
    siggy should be here!
  • Honestly, we went for a plain, sound only monitor from Sony, with just one receiver. We lived in a small condo and didn't need two receivers or a monitor. It worked great, and I plan on using it again if we have another LO.

  • We have the Angelcare and a Video Monitor and love both.   DS is 16 months and we still use both.   We used the Angelcare in both the Arm's Reach CoSleeper and in the Pack and Play (he slept in the PNP when he grew out of the ARC before he finally went to his nursery at 5 months).   You need to cut a small hole in the mesh in order to feed through the wiring and put a masonite board under it in order for it to work properly (we will use it this summer again this way while traveling). Let me know if you have any questions about setting it up if you decide to go this route.
