Question about charting...

If you chart but you don't check temps, what all do you do?

My cycle is pretty regular and I keep track of it on a calendar.  I also (sort of) keep track of CM.  What else is there to do other than tracking my temps?  I've read TCOYF but it's been quite awhile.  (I know I can re-read it but you guys are so much more user friendly. Smile )

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Question about charting...

  • i had pretty regular cycles as well. 29-30 days and O on day 14-16. I did temp though and i will say (TMI here) that it got kind of hard for me to distinguish between fertile CM and leftover sperm when we were going at it all the time to get pg. So temping definitely helped pinpoint my exact O, which probably wasn't necessary since we were doing it all the time, but I liked to see it on the chart. just a thought if you're only checking CM.

you can also check your cervical position.

  • You can chart and just check CM and use OPKs.

I hate taking my temperature every morning but am glad I did this cycle because my cycle has been crazy.  If I hadn't been taking my temps I would have assumed I'd O'd a couple weeks before I actually did.  But if your cycles are pretty regular you can always start just charting with CM and then when you start TTC you can start using OPKs as well.

That's what I was going to say.  I also charted every possible symptom, like sore boobs, cramping, etc.  Next time I will do my best to temp, but not sure how that will work out.  My old doc said not to worry about temping too much because there are so many variables that can cause a shift.  I rarely go to bed at the same time and always wake up in the middle of the night to pee (even before pg).

I temped and checked CM, but I also used a CBEFM.  I found it worked much better for me than OPKs.  When we TTC again, if A's sleep is still all over the place like it is now, I may even skip temping/charting for a few cycles and just go with the CBEFM.

Just curious (since I just bought a pack of 50 OPK test strips off amazon)... in what ways was CBEFM better than the OPKs?  I assumed they did the same thing.

I did this as well.  I think it was the best for me since it gave a head's up a few days before O and not just the "you're going to O in 12 hours" panic that I got from OPK's.  I also tried the OVWatch which was a peice of junk.  It worked well when it worked but broke partway through month 2 so not worth the money.
