i there! Bumping from the hospital. My son was born at 33 weeks. He started getting sick over the weekend and I brought him to the hospital yesterday and he was admitted. His lung sounds were awful, he was having problems breathing because he was so congested, and very lethargic. RSV came back positive and he is slowly improving. My question is, if your LO had RSV how long did it take them to get back to normal? I know its gonna take time especially since he is a preemie but I am going crazy here. After the stay in NICU I am really needing some other mommy experience. His lung sounds are much better and breathing better but still lots of drainage when they suction him. He is eating half of what he usually ate at home. I know every baby is differewnt but I need some reassurance.
Re: XP: anyones LO had RSV?
I'm so sorry you are going through this with your LO. My son was born at 35 weeks. Although we were on very strict house arrest with no children visiting my son still got RSV within days of my returning to work. He was almost 4 months old.
DS had very similar symptoms. He had to be suctioned at the docotrs office but didn't have to be re-admitted to the hospital. Although, I almost felt more scared having him at home. I was so worried about the labored breathing. I think I didn't sleep for a good week. We were at the doctor once a day for a few days to get through the worst of it.
To answer your question, he started to improve in stages very slowly. The lungs sounded a lot better and he was breathing more normally within a couple of days with suction treatments. It was a couple of weeks before he was outwardly less congested and able to sleep outside of his swing. It was probably a month- 6 weeks to be back to himself totally. We also dealt with a lot of sleep issues after he got better. He was really uncomfortable sleeping on his back after the RSV.
I know how scary it is and I'm so sorry for your LO. It sounds like, hopefully, you have been through the worst of it though. I hope you get discharged and back home very soon. Good luck!
