NBR: Easter meal

Who's cooking??  What's on your menu??  What's your meal like (brunch, formal dinner, etc?)

In the past we've done a big brunch deal... this year I'm hosting again and decided to scale it back and just have a very casual lunch with our children, parents, my siblings and Ben's aunts.  We're eating:

Honey Baked Ham (from the store) I would love to make my own ham but unfortunately family members have tried in the past and people kind of complain because they miss the HB stuff :(  Oh well... it's tasty!

We also get a HB turkey breast b/c my MIL is allergic to pork.

Sandwich stuff (bread, cheese, lettuce & tomato, etc)

devilled eggs

roasted asparagus

dill potato salad

green salad (like regular lettuce salad, not green jello or anything :)

carrot cake

s'mores brownies

*Haven't completely decided on appetizery things.. think I'm just going to throw out some veg and dip and a couple of cheeses and crackers.

And I was thinking of making some kind of cocktail in a pitcher... like white sangria or something?  Nothing too strong since it will be early.

  • DH and I were just discussing this very topic, over dinner. We are hosting (nothing big/fancy, since it will just be my parents, his parents, my sister (her new BF?), and maybe my aunt). We decided on more of a lunch (vs. brunch) and our menu sounds almost exactly like yours, except we'll likely do something with sweet potatoes, since they are a family favorite.
  • We are hosting my parents, my bros and my SIL, my grandma. We are having dinner, not formal but Audrey will be wearing her pretty Easter dress.

    Apps:

    My Mom's Deviled Eggs

    Something my bro brings

    Cheese, Salami, Crackers

    Dinner:

    Bacon wrapped pork loin

    Hash Brown Casserole

    Roasted Asparagus and Broccolini

    Bro bringing rolls

    Gma bringing green bean casserole

    Mom bringing 7 layer salad

    Dessert:

    Brownies

    Cranberry Swirl Cheesecake

    Assorted Easter Candy of course

  • My 80 year old Nana still hosts Easter. I hosted last year, but since we had Brynn this year I thought it would be too much. Hopefully next year I can take it over again since Nana is kind of getting up there and it's alot for her to handle even with help. Anyways we have a big brunch that includes:

    - bacon quiche

    - breakfast pizza

    - sausage casserol

    - homemade cinnamon rolls

    - salami roll ups

    - meat and cheese tray

    - cheese and crackers

    - easter basket full of candy

    - fruit

I feel like I'm missing something, but that's all I can remember right now.

  • So embarrassed to post this...

It will just be us and my parents, and my sister will be coming in briefly to eat with us from Columbus (she works all the time and is never off). She wants to eat at the Chinese buffet for Easter dinner.  So we are doing appetizers at the house early on, then heading to Twin Dragon in Mason around 4. I seriously can't believe it (although it is an awesome buffet...still).

  • Wow, you guys are having some rockin' dishes for Easter.

DH and I are hosting this year, it's kind of turning into "our" holiday to host every year.  I am thrilled to announce that my MIL will be joining us this year (where is that sarcasm font when you need it?!).  Besides MIL, we will have my parents, my niece and nephew, and my brother (if my brother isn't working).  Not sure if my sister and her family will be here, they are driving back from Ft Myers the day before and may feel like staying at home.

I am making a ham, and we will probably have scalloped potatoes and deviled eggs.  Beyond that, I have no idea what we will have.  Guess I better get on that.

Justin Thomas joined us on 8.4.07
    Tyler Anthony arrived on 9.21.09

  • We're hosting this year but have decided for it to be a potluck and we will provide the HB ham! It will be similar foods as yours though. I will buy some sandwich fixings and I know my MIL is making deviled eggs. My Mom will probably make 7-layer salad and some kind of potato. We do a buffet style.
