Opinions on Cora?

I have mixed feelings on this name.Sometimes I love it other times I'm not sure I like it. Does it sound funny with my ds's name Noah? I've never known anyone named Cora, does it sound too old?

I love it. I don't think it sounds old at all.

I do not like how it sounds with Noah though.

I didn't really like how it sounds with Noah either. Too rhymy

  • I love it!

It doesn't flow super well with Noah. If I say them together it comes out Coah and Nora.

  • LOVE Cora (but we can't use it because my cousin just did for her daughter).  I agree with PPs, though, that it's a little too similar to Noah.  :(

  • Cora is one of my favorite names! It's lovely and classic, not at all "old".

  • I love it SO much.  It was my great grandma's name and I'd use it in a heartbeat if my sister hadn't claimed it years ago.  She's not married or pregnant, but you know how sisters are.  Wink

Go for it.  It does sound a bit similar to Noah but not annoyingly so.

    Ditto pp about Noah, though.

  • Nms but I don't hate it.  I agree with it not sounding great with Noah.  LOVE Noah btw.

  • I'm glad you asked about this--interested to hear the opinions.  This is at the top of our list for girls names.  It's my #2 and DH's #1, and I kind of think he'll win.  (I'd prefer Vera, but like Cora too).

I think it's ok with Noah.  That happens to be my DH's name, so if we go with Cora we'll have a Noah and a Cora in the family too.  Not quite the same as siblings though--you don't say the father-daughter names together as much as siblings.  But to me it sounds ok.  No worse to me than Noah and Hannah, which is my DH's sister's name.

  • And reading your original post again, I kind of feel the same way on this name (mixed).  I liked it a lot originally but sometimes lately now I'm not so sure.  Glad to hear that others like it.

  • Although I think it is technically a classic name, it's an odd one because to me it sounds old and young and trendy (not in the way that Stella sounds to me). I think for me, the "confusion" is that it is similar to Cara and Cori which have younger, trendier feels to me. FWIW, I know a baby Cora and a middle-aged Cora. For me, the name fits the baby Cora better. Okay I realize my answer was no help lol. I do think it's awkward with Noah.

  • Love the name Cora, it's DD's name! I thought about Noah as well for our boy, buy it just doesn't go well with our last name.
  • I love it. I don't think it sounds old at all. Much more youthful than other old-fashioned names that are so popular now, like Evelyn, Vivian, Eleanor, etc. I don't think it sounds great with Noah though.

I don't think it sounds bad with Noah.

  • It's what we're planning on naming dd #3. We liked it right after we found out this was a girl, and now my husband doesn't want to discuss any names. He loves it. I still considered other names but I can't seem to find one I like more than Cora (and it goes with our other two girls I think).

  • I LOVE this name. It is at the top of my girls list. My best friend said her grandma's best friend was named Cora, and judging by SS registers, it is an older name. But that's why I love it. And it's not used as much as some other ones, yet...

I think it sounds very nice with Noah.

    I agree!

  • I think Cora is one of those old-fashioned names that are, in fact, timeless. Think of Elizabeth, Vivienne, and plenty of others. Such pretty, feminine names! It would be a shame to forgo a lovely name like Cora for fear of it sounding old. Now, if you were suggesting naming your DD Fanny.....I'd have a very different opinion, but I say go ahead with Cora!
  • My daughter is Cora Evelyn - so we obviously love it.  I have to say, when I first read your post - my brain automatically said "nora" when I read Noah.  So, I think it might be too close
  • I love Cora, but I don't like how it sounds with Noah.

  • I love the sound of Cora, but not the spelling..for some reason it looks odd to me....In my head I want to spell it Corragh...I am not one to add letters that shouldnt be there but for some reason Cora looks like its missing letters....and my mind thinks Coragh or Corragh...maybe the Irish in me.
  • I love it! But I do agree, for some reason, it sounds sort of weird with Noah, but I bet you'd get used to it after saying it together a few times.

  • LOVE it. If I didn't already have a Clara, that would be baby #3's name.
  • Love it! But it's the name of the Tron girl from the new movie, and that ruined it for me.
