uppababy vista, britax b-ready, or other?

hi, all.  i'm currently expecting my first child, but am trying to plan ahead in the hopes of having a second child while my first is still stroller age.  so i'm looking to find a good stroller that can convert from a single to a double when the time comes.

i had posted earlier about stroller recommendations for tall people (b/c i'm 5'10" and DH is 6'4"), and got a TON of recommendations for the uppababy vista.  my sister is now expecting her second child, and just got the britax b-ready, which she's been trying to sell me on.  and i know there are others out there that can convert from single to double, too.  i'm obviously going to go try them out--as soon as i can find a store that carries all the ones i want to see.  but in the meantime, i'm looking for recommendations for a good stroller that can both convert from single to double, and has adjustable handles for taller parents.

after looking online, i'm a little concerned about the "second seat" configurations i've seen.  on the b-ready, it looks like the second seat is really really low, practically on the ground, and with the UPV, it seems like you can't have the older child facing forward (which, from what i understand from BTDT moms, is ALL the older kids want to do).  does anyone have any thoughts about these or other single-to-double strollers?  or should i just suck it up and plan on buying a second (double) stroller when the time comes?

thanks in advance!  oh, and yes, i know about the britax deal.  my mom will be buying, though, so price isn't the primary consideration at this point!

  • I have the b-ready, and I love it. In fact, my neighbor loves it now too, so she will be ordering one in the next few days.

My DD is 3, and she likes to sit in either seat. It is a tad difficult for her to climb into the second seat, but it was like that with my P&T double too. I really, really like my b-ready a lot!

  • My friends who just had a second child (their first is just under 2) researched this a ton and ultimately went with the Baby Jogger City Select.  Money is not an object for these two - their first stroller was the Bugaboo Chameleon, which they sold when baby #2 was born - and they said that even though this one was not the most expensive convertible on the market, it was definitely the best.

Looks pretty cool to me: https://www.babyjogger.com/city_select_lp.aspx

  • I was going to suggest the Baby Jogger City Select too. Go to the baby jogger website to watch the demo video.

    check out this comparison: https://stroller411.com/blog/249/uppababy-vista-vs-baby-jogger-city-select-vs-britax-b-ready/

also, i was able to see all 3 of these strollers at buy buy baby. we got the uppababy vista but i'm really more concerned with using it a single. i'm not sure when we'll have a 2nd, so while i liked that this can be made into a double, that wasn't the feature i focused on.

  • We are going with the UppaBaby Vista and one of the things that turned us off of the B-Ready was the Britax Chaperone is a lot bigger than the Chicco Keyfit or Graco Snugride and most likely won't fit in my Toyota Corolla.

  • I had the same thoughts as you- and my husband is also very tall. We went together to look at both, and there was no question - we bought the Vista.
  • wow--thanks, that comparison chart is really helpful!

and thanks for the baby jogger rec--it looks like that one has, by FAR, the most flexibility in terms of configuration of the two seats.

for what it's worth, even if we went with the b-ready, we probably wouldn't be using the britax infant seat (we'd likely select one of the other "free gifts"). i think we're probably going with the graco snugride for the infant seat.

we'll definitely add the baby jogger to the list of ones to test drive.  i've heard really good things about the UPV--i'm just concerned that it seems like it can only face backwards with the second seat added.

i'm trying to figure out how much i should consider the second seat/convertible aspects of it.  we definitely WANT another child after this one, but i'm 38, so if it's going to happen it would have to happen sooner rather than later--and obviously there's no guarantee it will happen at all.  sigh.  this is all so complicated!  Smile  thanks for the input, ladies!

you're welcome. i thought it was helpful too since i considered all 3 of these options....more so for the rear facing seat options that they all offered, but also liked the option of adding 2nd seat.

i do like the 2nd seat options that the city select offers better, but what i didn't like about that stroller was the adapter for the infant car seat i choose. the car seat didn't just snap in like it does with the vista...instead the adapter came with straps and i'd need to strap the seat in to keep it secure. but, like i said, i was primarily focused on having a great single stroller...and assuming that i'll have a toddler by the time i have a 2nd kid, so the 2nd seat wouldn't be as important.

of course, the other thing to consider is re-sell value....i've seen the prices that uppababy re-sells for on craigslist, so if we have a 2nd close in age and want a different stroller, i'd probably be able to make some money back on it.

definitely see if you have a bbb near you though and check out all 3 options. the salespeople there were really helpful and showed me the adapters and how my car seat could be used, how each folded, etc.

  • we got the uppa baby vista and we love it. i love that is comes with a bassinet attachment and that it goes with many car seats including the chicco key fit 30. and from friends of mine that alreayd have two children they say the second seat is great. hope this helps.

  • Check out the Bugaboo Donkey. If I have another baby anytime soon (it will be an accident) I will be upgrading from the Chameleon to the Donkey.
  • Check them out IRL, we originally thought we wanted the Britax, however once we test drove the two there was no comparison - the Vista is so much smoother and nicer.  We're only have one child so I never researched the 2nd child configurations, but I've heard good things about the Baby Jogger one mentioned above.

  • Hi! I'm a FTM, but I feel like i've been researching exact three strollers FOREVER. DH and I finally decided on the UBV...the deciding factor for us was WEIGHT. the UBV was WAY easier for ME to carry/fold/lift alone. The britax was SO HEAVY. I'm not exceptionally tall (nor is my husband) so I can't comment on that but I CAN say when we went to a store to do a side by side by side comparison my husband found the UBV to be made of better quality materials and had better maneuverability (my store had a little obstacle course for us to try) then the other two.

My advice...take your DH/SO with you and let them try all three. My husband is NOT really into all the baby shopping stuff but he enjoyed this shopping trip a even he enjoyed himself... (he equated it to buying a car).

  • Thats so funny, I took DH w/me for the same reason (he equated it to buying a car) and he hated the UPV, but we also knew already that we'd be getting the Chaperone carseat so I don't know if in his head that made him biased or predisposed to wanting the same brand of stroller.  I'm 5'5" and the weight was no problem for me and we tested every thing in there... we spent probably 2 hours on strollers alone *sigh* men...

ha.  i definitely plan on bringing DH...but i'm not sure how much patience he's going to have for this process!  i'm hoping he'll get into the "it's like buying a car" spirit, but i dunno.  i was talking to my mom last night, and she mentioned something about the britax, and both DH and my dad said, "what's THAT?"  he has no clue what he's in for...
