We're headed to the Twin Cities over Memorial Day and are thinking about catching a Twins game. Take the 19 month old or not?
We'd make sure we're on the shady side and are hoping to get tickets to an afternoon game. We'd also buy him his own seat (not even sure if little ones get in for free, anyway)
Thoughts?
Re: Toddler and Baseball?
My SIL just tried taking her 21 month old to the OU Red & White football game (it's a scrimmage between the players) as a trial run to see if they could manage to get him to a real game next season. She said luckily it wasn't very crowded so he was able to run around in the stands but that he definitely did not last the whole game and she doesn't think he'll be ready for a real game even though that is 6 months from now. I know I would not have tried to take Ellie to a game at that age because she was not one to sit still for long at all and I didn't want to worry about her disturbing other attendees and chasing her all over so that I couldn't pay attention to the game myself.
I think it probably depends on your child; if your LO can sit in a seat for a few hours with toys, books, etc. then you can give it a try but I'd say be prepared to leave early in case he gets too bored, tired, etc. Might also depend on how much you want to be able to pay attention to the game.
We brought Owen to his first Red Sox game when he was 18 months old. He was free since he could sit in our lap ; ) & it is always crowded at Fenway. He did really well, but we did end up leaving at the bottom of the sixth (more for me, I was pregnant with Liam).
We are thinking about taking all the boys this summer.. that should be interesting. Keegan will not sit still for anything!
We took DS to a Rockies game last season when he was 18 months old, and it was dicey at best. We spent a lot of time walking around and trying to get him to stop trying to pick up dropped food off the floor and to stop slapping puddles of spilled beer. What we should have done was make use of the playground they have in the stadium, and we didn't do that.
If you aren't able to find out what the Twins' stadium might have for kids who aren't quite ready to sit through a game, Sunflower22 on our local board is a huge baseball fan and is from there and would probably know.
Thanks all! Since we haven't even found tickets yet, it's 50/50 if we'll even go. My BIL is a season ticket holder and even he couldn't get 4 seats together in the presales. Funny what a fancy new stadium does to ticket sales!
And FWIW, we are going to do a test run at the local AAA team in a few weeks.

Jack can't even sit still for a 1 hour softball game and I wouldn't expect him to either. I wouldn't take him to a Braves game, but then again, I'm a huge Braves fan, and I wouldn't want the interruptions. I'm too busy watching for Chipper to bend over, er...... I mean hit a home run.
