confused about the next step for car seats

DS was 41.5in and almost 35 pounds in Jan at his 3 year check up.  He has just about outgrown the carseat in DH's car.....the should straps are at their highest point and are almost below the level of his shoulders.  We want to purchase the next step in a seat, but what do I need to know.  He has to be in a 5 point harness til he's 4?  Is that right?  So something like the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 should be a good next step, right?  What other seats do you recommend?

    We're getting the Nautilus once Noah outgrows his convertible, or Levi needs out of his infant seat....whichever comes first.  And I believe you're right, 5 point harness until 4 and a booster until 8 or 4'9'', whichever comes first again.

    The Graco Naut. is a great seat. It has a very high top slot so most kids can stay harnessed until 7ish. Keeping them harnessed until age 4 is just the minimum but a lot of people will do it until they outgrown the harness.

    we have the nautilus and its wonderful. keep in mind that you need to remove all of the extra padding under the bum etc because thats intended for a toddler. We didn't take it off for a few days and Ben was way too snug

    We got the Nautilus when our DS was the same age as yours.  DS is 4.5 and I will not remove him from a 5 pt harness.  The Nautilus is up to 65 lbs harnessed.  For our other cars (ours and his grandmother's), we got the Evenflo Maestro, which is up to 50 lbs harnessed.  We just recently got the Maestros, as he outgrew the Alpha Omega (only up to 40lbs harnessed- didn't want to use the belt).  I just don't feel comfortable putting DS in a belt and not harnessed.  He is 39 lbs now, but I hope to keep him harnessed for quite a bit longer.

    We also have the Nautilus for Justin, he's been in it since Tyler moved into the convertible last spring.  It's very comfy for him and we will be buying more of those seats as Tyler grows.
