Hi, I'm due in July (the 3rd). I had my 1 hour GTT on Monday. Although I was told I didn't have to fast I did anyways because I ended up throwing up very early that morning.
I got a call today saying that my glucose levels were 210, and that they weren't even going to have me retested or take the 3 hour GTT. I'm being seen immediately (tomorrow) by a specialist to get my glucose levels back under control.
I had a major freak out today, but I'm really trying to come to terms with everything and just do what I have to do to get healthy. I don't really know what to expect. I'm sure they will give me guidelines to follow and I will have to take my glucose levels.
So I'm just here I guess looking for support from others who are going through the same thing.
I am also going back tomorrow to get my blood pressure checked. I haven't gotten results back yet from blood work they took yesterday, but they are concerned I may have pre-e as well.
Re: Intro... just got diagnosed
The GD ladies on this board are very supportive, so you've come to the right place
Most important advice: it's okay to freak out and be scared, but do not blame yourself. GD isn't always easy, but you'll get the hang of things quickly. I'm on round two of GD, the diet has kind of become second nature for me.
Some basics of what to expect: Your dietitian will set up a meal plan for you and give you a limit of how many carbs (including milk and fruits) you can have at each meal and snack (usually it's 3 meals and 3 snacks a day). You'll probably also be given protein and veggie guidelines, just to make sure you're eating a balanced diet. You'll learn how to check your blood sugar and when and how to read the nutrition labels on packaged foods to check carbs per serving.
To give you an idea of the diet, here's my day:
Bfast and AM snack are 15 grams of carbs and a serving of protein (sometimes two proteins for bfast). Lunch and dinner are 30 grams of carbs, 3-4 servings of protein, at least 1 cup veggies, and 8 oz milk. Afternoon snack is 15 grams of carbs, 1 serving of protein, and 4 oz milk. Bedtime snack is 30 grams of carbs, 2 servings of protein, and 4 oz milk. Fruit spikes my numbers, so I very rarely eat it; when I do, it's with lunch.
I test my blood sugar for fasting right when I wake up and have to be under 90. I test again 1 hour after each meal and have to be under 120. My diet and testing guidelines are stricter than many others on this board, but it gives you a basic picture of how GD is managed.
Good luck tomorrow!

I've only been dealing with this for about 4 days now but day 4 is definitely easier than day 1
I completely freaked out at work and was a sobbing hysterical mess because I am terrified of needles and the thought of testing myself gave me a panic attack. The doctor sat and literally held my hand until I was successful and now it's NBD. It's not fun, but it's doable. I just keep reminding myself that I love my baby and this is what I need to do to make sure she is healthy.
It also helped a ton when I went to my first class and 8 out of 10 of us were completely blown away when we heard the news. You're definitely not alone!

Everyone has given you lots of good info. I'm sorry that you have GD, but you will be okay. This is round two for me. I was tested early and failed.
I was really surprised when I failed my 1 hour GTT in my first pregnancy. Scratch that- I was shocked. I got over it once I felt like there was a plan in place to see me through my pregnancy safely for my baby. Your nutrition class will be great. You will see that there is a plan in place and that will give you peace of mind. It can also be a little overwhelming.
The first two weeks of being on the diet, living on a schedule, and eating by the clock are the hardest. I felt pretty hungry during those first two weeks. I talked to my MFM specialist and he had the nutritionist move some calories around for me. It helped tremendously. Also- I think I just got used to eating on a schedule.
I found that keeping a food log was really helpful. It is sometimes hard to remember what you ate that caused your blood sugar to be higher or lower than normal. If you can get some exercise everyday and your doc okays it- do it! It will help your blood sugar levels and is a great stress reliever! Good luck to you!
The same thing just happened to me last Monday, except my 1hr test was 205 (My Dr. actually told me to fast before my test). My Dr. called in a meter, strips and lancets to the pharmacy with orders for me to test 5x/day. Then I met with the dietitian the next day, and it made me feel SO much better. She gave me a specific diet plan to follow using the exchange system and now that I understand it is actually pretty easy. I have a specific amount of servings for each category of food that I can have per meal or snack (starch, milk, fruit, non-starchy veggie, protein and fat). She also gave me a book that has foods listed by each of these categories and approx. how much of that food is equal to 1 serving. SUPER helpful. Getting your blood sugar under control may also help your blood pressure as well.
I suggest searching on here for some meal ideas, that was really helpful to me. Go to google.com and in the search box type site:community.thebump.com followed by what you're searching for. For example, site:community.thebump.com GD meals . This works a lot better than the search engine on the Bump. Good Luck!!

Katiewhompus: I love your idea about writing everything down (not just the important stuff). I have a book that I have been writing food, BG readings, etc., but I never thought to add more too it. Good one!
To the OP: I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago and am still getting the hang of it. I was one pissed off mama when I found out - just mad at the world that I had to do this. But then you get over it, and you just do what you have to do for your baby. I have a 2 year old, and did not have GD with her so this was just weird to me. I thought checking my levels was going to be the worst part, and I was dredding it (so afraid of needles). But now, it really is NBD and I kind of look forward to it so that I can make sure I am doing it right! This board has been super supportive to me and given great advice. Welcome!
