Swings are killing me

First we got the Graco duo 2 in 1 swing and bouncer...when the vibrate mode was on it sounded like an airplane taking off. The vibrating part hit the tray and it was so annoying, didn't want to deal with taking the tray off all the time or just not using the vibrate mode so we returned it.

Then we got the Graco Silhouette - Fail #2. We got 2 different ones of the same swing and both when set up (correclty - we got them checked at BRU) were crooked and the swing would hit the side stand and it would make a rubbing noise. It also just didn't seem sturdy, it was very wobbly.

I have no idea what swing to choose, I hate them all now. I'm considering a mamroo instead and I'm not sure how I feel about the swings that look like the Fisher Price Little Lamb, etc because they take up a lot of space. Anyone have a recommendation other than these? Am I the only one having horrible luck with swings? If I'm going to spend $150-$200 I want to be happy with it.

  • We had a the fisher price rainforest one for DD. We ended up taking it down after a while and getting a take along swing. They work just as good if not better and take up way less space plus we could travel with it if we needed too.

  • I never had a swing and never felt like we needed one.  I'd just skip it until your LO arrives.  You can always get one later if you think it might be helpful.

Our solution was just a plain, ol' bouncy seat, which I used when I needed to put her down for short periods (to take a shower or eat).

  • We took a risk and got the Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider in Coco Sorbet (I think that's all correct).  It goes smoothly side to side and front to back on a low pedestal rather than being suspended like a typical swing.  It was recommended to us by a friend when we were complaining abou the big papasan swings taking up too much space.  Her DS loved it and hated the swing at his daycare.  Our LO isn't here yet, so I can't give it a full review, but it looks good and has decent reviews from what I've seen/heard.
  • one of our friends has a FisherPrice Zen and swears by it, she bought it for her 2nd baby and plans to use it with their next.
