Does your LO use a pillow in their crib?

The post below about pillow pets had me wondering... Does your LO use a pillow?  I think my guy would like to have one in there, he loves to lay on the ones on our bed.  I'm not sure how old they have to be to use a pillow.  What are your thoughts?  Thanks!

  • Admittedly, I'm a very bad mom and DS is my third, but he has a pillow and a pillow pet as well as an assortment of stuffed animals, books, a lovey and a blanket...or and a water.  We always gave him the lovey and blanket.  The extra stuff started accumulating in there maybe at a year or a little before.

  • DD has one of the small pillow pets in there with her, but she uses it more as hug-able comfort than as a pillow.

  • My LO is 19 months old and he has a pillow in his crib. It started when he had a bad cold and I asked the doctor if there was anything that I could do to help him sleep at night, the doc said that as long as he could roll over and support his heat and torso fine then a pillow would help elevate him. He slept so well with it that I never took it out. Now he loves it and cuddles with it at night.

  • My DD started sleeping with a pillow around 15 months when she had a cold and ear infection. I figured anything that propped her up may help a bit. She really liked it so I let her keep it.

  • Hey!

Carter has a pillow in his crib. It's actually a pillow pet. It's downstairs right now because It had to be washed due to last weeks stomach bug or else it would be in his crib. He doesn't wake up on it though. He has one at daycare too. Almost all of the kids have a pillow pet in their PNP at daycare.

  • Also he does have multiple stuffed animals and a blanket in his crib. Almost every morning I have to pick them all up off the floor and put them back in his crib. Carter thinks it's hilarious!

  • DD rolls around so much when she sleeps, I know that she would never stay on or even near a pillow, so I haven't put one in there. I wouldn't be worried about doing so at her age, there just doesn't seem to be much point to it. She just got a pillow pet though, so maybe I'll toss that in and see how it goes.

THIS exactly! Dean moves around like a crazy man throughout the night. I just don't think he would keep his wiggly head on a pillow.

  • Yup, a regular, thin pillow since about 13 months and a blanket since about 15 months.

  • yes, we keep one on each side of her crib, she tosses and turns a lot. They are both thin regular pillows.

  • I put a regular adult size pillow (a flat one) in DS's crib a few weeks ago when he had bronchiolitis and could not breathe because of his congestion.  We had tried everything else, and we were desperate for sleep.

  • We started putting a small pillow in his crib about 2-3 months ago.  It was a part of the bedding set we had custom made.  He doesn't "use" it really .... but on a few occasions I have seen that he kind of plays with it while trying to get to sleep and then it lands just near him/his head as he falls asleep, but I don't think he placed it there on purpose - KWIM?

  • No. My doctor says she's seen SIDS up to 2 years old, so she advises we don't take the risk. My son lies on a pillow to rest in the living room but he doesn't have one in his crib.

Health Canada recommends you wait until 2.

  • Cedric has a pillow in his bed but doesn't use it yet. He cuddles up with his blanket and is happy.

  • My 3yr old yes; my 18mos old no.
  • I put a pillow in DS's crib once he was a year old.

  • My DD has a tiny one that is pointless. It is maybe a 6X6 square. I've seen her use it once. Usually she is just laid out :)
  • I gave DD one around 19 months but she didn't start using it until a few nights ago when we transitioned her to a 'big girl bed'

  • DS has a pillow. He slept with me while visiting family and used the pillow on the bed. When we came home he knew something was "missing" in his crib. One day I took the pillow out b/c I was washing it. I put him down for his nap and he looked so confused because his pillow was gone. He also has the constellation turtle and a blanket in there.

  • DS is in a twin bed now but we gave him a small pillow shortly after his birthday.
