Trouble TTC

Considering going to Therapy...

So- I think I am going insane, and I can't take it any more...

I have been obsessing so much about my issues that I can't concentrate at all, and hate everything and everyone. I am on the verge of tears all day- every day.

I finally sucked it up and called my OB's office (My RE is in another state- so insurance won't cover therapists down there). I left a message for the nurse asking if they had a list of therapists who specialize in IF and/or loss.

I think that I have finally crossed the line- and need help. It isn't fair to my friends and family that I continue to vent to them, and act like a crazy biatch...

Anyone else in therapy for IF? How did you find your therapist? Tell me about your experience.

I am sort of scared that they will dismiss my craziness, or minimize my pain- although I rationally know that it is normal to feel what I feel.

Re: Considering going to Therapy...

  • It's healthy for you to get help if you feel you need it. Don't let someone discount your feelings.

If someone that claims to be an IF therapist doesn't want to listen to you then find one that will and that you feel comfortable with.

In the meantime all I can say is that you are an interesting person with a lot to offer. You know if you're feeling off and aren't able to be the person you want to be. IF is the slow festering wound that never heals. We all appreciate your help, knowledge, and caring attitude. Hang in there!

  • LG- HA!!! Yeah- that would be nice!!! I could use a compliment, although from a therapist- it would creep me out a little... like it did you.

I got a name from the nurse at the OB office, but she was going to ask my Dr. to call me too. I love that office- and my Dr. He always calls me personally.

Thanks for the suggestion on Googling- I didn't think of that.

  • I am sorry Marla! If you feel like that is the right thing for you I say go for it.

    We are here for you!!

  • IF is an emotional roller coaster.  Kudos to you for seeking help if you are feeling out of control!

I am not currently in therapy for IF, but have been to therapy previously for unrelated issues.  I am definitely PRO Therapy.  It helped me get through a difficult time in my life and keep my sanity in tact.  (Or mostly...lol)

Hope you get an appt. soon and find a therapist you click with. Keep us posted.

  • You know how you are feeling and talking to someone can make you feel so much better!  I think it's a great idea this is such a trying process and it takes its toll on all of us.

I totally agree with PP you have to find someone you are comfortable with, otherwise you might end up more frustrated than when you walked in.  GL!

  • My office has a 'support group' run by a licensed therapist (who herself has been through IVF).  I went last month - and I plan to keep going until I get KU.  The first meeting helped a lot - it was really nice to be in a room with others going through the same thing.  It's not quite the same as individual therapy - but its still therapy.

Anyway - I think it is a great idea and I'm sure that it will help in some way.  GL!

  • I'm so sorry you're having a hard time.  It sucks and I am definately pro-therapy.  We all need support but I don't think that you're crazy, I think it's a wise thing to know when you're being faced with something that could burry you and that it's going to be painful and difficult.

The first time I realized it was be crazy to not be overwhelmed, it was a huge relief.  I still had to struggle, but I knew that anyone would in my place and got some hope from that thought.   Big, big hugs for you.

  • I don't have any advice, other than to say that I sometimes feel like I need the same thing. I actually talked to some of the girls here about the same thing right after my cancer dx.

I got some good recommendations from my IVF nurse- they may be a good resource.

(((hugs))) to you. I hope you feel better soon!

  • I would soooo go! Talking to a therapist can only help (I think). I've been to many different therapists too. If you don't like one, don't keep going. It's okay to keep trying out different ones until you find one you like. Definitely find one that specializes in IF.  Specialty DO mean something.  Good Luck Marla. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Sorry that today was rough.
