Hello ladies. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue, as I am thoroughly confused as to what is/not safe to treat skin flare-ups during pregnancy. I've researched various reputable medical sites that say benzoyl peroxide is ok, but then talked to my OB and derm, who both say they'd "prefer" that I don't take anything during pregnancy. I do not want to put my little one in any danger but this is not just a vanity issue: I have red, itchy, painful bumps all along my jawline that have been erupting since my first trimester. I've even asked about non-questionable, OTC or natural remedies, such as Vitamin E drops or tea tree oil, or Persagel sparingly dabbed on the blemishes only at night, but all I get from my docs is, just wait until after you deliver (or, in the case of my derm, after I stop breastfeeding) to treat the blemishes. My main issue is the extreme itching and potential scarring, not to mention the fact that it makes me want to hide my face and not go out without heavy concealer (even then, I still have skin-colored lumps). I had heard that finacea (azelaic acid) was safe for pregnancy but my derm said she'd prefer not to prescribe anything. So, basically, my docs are no help whatsoever. Anyone else have any experience with this that they can share?
