Has anyone switched before the 12 month mark? I will check with our ped before doing so - but it seems like DS who is just about 11 months is not liking formula much now that he gets a variety of solid foods along with watered down apple juice sometimes. The only times he really downs a bottle is first thing in the morning and then he will drink a little bit more at night. Otherwise I have to keep giving it back to him to try to get him to eat some.
So just wondering if anyone else went through this and if you switched to real milk early - how it went...Thanks!
Re: Switching to whole milk early?
DS started whole milk at 10 months. We started 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 then whole bottle of it mixed with his formula to make sure he did okay. He also is on the lactaid free whole milk because he has an intolerance. He has done great on it. The pedi actually gave us a go ahead at 9 months, but he got RSV and pneumonia, so I wanted him to get over that before starting a big change.
I started give LO WM on his 11 month birthday. I'd mix in WM with is formula started 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 until it was only WM in his bottle. For us it was an easy and smooth transition.

I started to give him a cup of milk in the afternoon at 11 months. I didn't want him drinking to much juice and water wasn't cutting it. He has weaned to only 2 BFings per day morning and night, So he needed something else to help him move things along. I figured since he did good with yogurt and cheese givng him whole milk wouldn't be an issue - And it wasn't! It's making weaning that much easier!
Yeah, DD is 10 1/2 mos old and we are planning to start introducing whole milk. I plan to do what PP did......slowly incorporate it into DD's bottle. So 1/4 WM with 3/4 formula, then 1/2 and 1/2 and so on.
I wanted to start this last week, but we have been sick, so I haven't made it to the store. Hope to start the end of this week!
