Anyone experiencing lower back pain early in the second Tri?

I'm 13 weeks and for the last couple of weeks, I have been having lower back pain.  Mostly on my left side.  It hurts when I'm trying to get up after sitting or after laying down.  Not sure if this is because I need to get my body moving more than just walking or if it has something to do with pregnancy?

Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

  • I've had mine since late 1st Tri.  My dr. diagnosed it mostly to constipation.  :(  I've been doing a lot of stretching exercises and it seems to be getting better.

  • I have been having lots of lower back and hip pain.  I have to do a lot of bending over hospital beds and helping other nurses lift our heavier patients.  It's not shocking that I'm hurting.  I just have my chiropractor on speed dial...lol

  • It very well could be siatica (siatic nerve pain). I had it beginning really (about 9 weeks). Siatica is a common pregnancy symtpom -- especially later in pregnancy. I started making more of a point to move around more by walking the stairs at work, taking more walks, and I also started doing prenatal yoga. I've felt a ton better in the past 2 weeks. HTH!

  • Yes to back pain, and also terrible hip pain.  I asked at my last appointment, and doc attributed it to growing/stretching.  My hip pain has gotten worse as I've upped the jogging/running, so I plan on asking at my next appointment next week.

  • Siatic nerve pain is actually very very rare. However, your pelvis is changing and moving and joints get out of whack. I find that exercise really helps. You should google pelvic tilt exercises they should help!
  • Great!  Thanks for the support!  I will check out the pelvic tilt exercises too.  The pain is still there, it's only on my left lower, lower back.  It's almost not really back pain, but right above my butt cheek. lol.  I do need to get working out more.  Just have felt tired and pukey feeling, it's hard to get motivated.

  • I'm having pain in the exact same location as you. It started hurting me when I was about 16 weeks, and only when I was working out. I'm 20 weeks now and it's almost constant. I was actually going to see a chiropractor to see if I'm out of alignment or something. I'm sure a massage wouldn't hurt either!
  • I am at 22 weeks and just started having excruciating back pain....brought me to tears last night.  I am nearly terrified of moving now because I'm afraid it will spark up again.  Everyone says to exercise more to help, but honestly I'm scared.  My doctor simply said it is probably the baby's position on the nerves.  Could it have to do with my posture during the day or having to sit at the computer for extended periods of time?  I'm just looking for some more advice...
  • Yes, and I've had it since middle of 1st tri. Mine is sciatica. It was only on my left side at first, but now it's on both. It's worse when I get up (like yours) from laying down, or when I'm bending over the baby cribs at work. And if I go for a long walk it starts to hurt towards the end.

I'm going to start prenatal yoga soon and I hope that will help.
