Anyone using their maiden name as LO's middle name?

I kept my name when DH & I got married.  So, we are using my last name as our son's middle name...our hope is that he won't be confused about having a totally different last name than his momma, because he'll have a connection to both.

My DH's middle name is also his mom's maiden name (although she did take FIL's name when they married).

Wondered if anyone else is doing this...

  • I didn't take my husband's name either. We have not yet determined whose last name our LO will have, we will definitely incorporate the other LN somewhere in our LO's name, most likely as a middle name.

  • That's great.   I love using maiden names or family names as a mn.

I didn't do it for my son but sometimes I wish that I had.   My last name is very ethnic, similar to Grabowski, and thought that it wouldn't do well as a mn.   I'm envious of those that have maiden names that can easily be used.

I may still do it if I ever have a daughter.

  • I wanted to use my maiden name as a mn if we had a boy, and if we had another boy I wanted to use my mother's maiden name as a mn....we have one daughter (my mom's first name is her mn) and we are having another girl (we are using the female for of DH's grandfather's name as a mn.

The maiden names I wanted to use:  Warren and Simon

  • My mom hyphenated her name, but I had her maiden name as my middle name. I dropped it for my own maiden name and took my husband's LN when I got married. I personally didn't like my MN growing up because it had a lot of opportunities for teasing, but I think it's a good idea to keep names in the family.

  • My cousin used her maiden name for her first born's middle name.  Her last name was ending with her generation (she has two sisters and a brother who won't have any children).  I thought it was a cool way to keep the family name going.

This is exactly what we did.  My DD has my last name as her only middle name.  We'll do the same with #2 as well.

  • My maiden name would work for a girl, but definitely not for a boy.  If I have a daughter someday, her middle name will definitely be my maiden name.

  • If we have a boy, I want his middle name to be either my maiden name or my dad's first name.  I think my maiden name would be better - it's my middle name now and flows nicely with our last name.  DD's first name is my mom's maiden name.

  • We're considering it as a 2nd Middle Name. We can't even choose a first name, so we haven't even begun to discuss that in depth yet.

  • My last name couldn't pass for a first or middle name by any stretch of the imagination. So I'm not going to try it.

I'm also planning on taking my FI's last name when we get married

  • I took my husbands LN.  DS2 has my maiden name as his MN.  DS1 has FIL's  MN which was his mother's maiden name.

  • I didn't keep my maiden name when I got married. My maiden name is a fairly common last name so I would consider using it as a LO's mn.

  • Instead of picking a random name for a middle name, both of my kids have my maiden name as their middle name- I have one boy and one girl.  Any future children will also have my maiden name as their middle name.  It means something to me - much more than just coming up with a second name.
  • I kept my maiden name, and we're planning on hyphenating our child's name (mylast-hislast). Fortunately, our names work really, really well together-- I know this wouldn't work for everyone. I do want our child to feel like they can use my name as their middle name if they ever completely tire of the hyphen (which means we need to come up with a name that goes both with the hyphenated name and my husband's last name).
