Trouble TTC

PCOS again? anyone?

Whoa.. it's been a while!  I used to post a lot when I was trying to get pregnant for my son who is now 2 1/2.  I was diagnosed with PCOS then and had three assisted cycles. Miscarried.. pregnant after that.

I wondered what everyone's experiance has been with PCOS ?  I had 2 years of absolutley normal cycles. 28days on the nose.. everything seemed on track. I was terried to be on the pill again because I was scared that it would change something so I left everything completely natural. We just used our heads as far as contreceptives. A few months ago, we decided that we'd like to try for baby #2.

The last few months. .my cycles have been getting weird again.  They've been longer.. more like 34 days.  This cycle.. I'm on day 39 with nothing. No spotting. No cramps. Absolutely no sign of AF.  I tested this morning.. BFN of course which is unfortunately what I expected.

Is this how it's happened for any of you before?  I'm assuming this is just PCOS again. I called my OB and I have an appt. on Tuesday.  I'm thinking that she could just refer me to an RE now since technically we've been unprotected for two years with no pregnancy.

Just wondered what your experiences were.  I loved this board before.. thought I would try again.

Re: PCOS again? anyone?

  • Welcome back to the boards, your son is adorable!

We are trying for our 1st baby but I, too, have a case of PCOS.  I've never had a 28 day cycle ever, but for a year or two I did have regular cycles coming every 33-35 days.  Things got bad once we actually started TTC.  Before medication my cycles were 35-50 days and I had no idea when to expect my period.  So, yes, that's happened to me.  I thought it was weird too, because my body was capable of having regular periods if only for a time.  I was about 15 pounds thinner back then and exercised more, so I wonder if that had something to do with it?  However, I'm not overweight (just heavier) right now, so I have no clue why things changed.

I think you made a good decision calling your doctor if it's been 2 years without protection and a history of PCOS.  Good luck with everything, hoping medication work for you again!

  • I, too, have PCOS and we are TTC for the first time. I was diagnosed when I was 15 and I am now 22. I had been on the pill to "help" PCOS. Now that I am off of it for 6 months I have had no luck with pregnancy. I tried charting my cycles but that just revealed anovulatory cycles. I still haven't had a "full" period - meaning that my period starts but doesn't even last one whole day.

So I understand your frustrations. My doctor put me on Metformin, I've only been on it for a little over a month and have seen no significant changes.

But from what I've heard, a good diet and regular exercise can help!!

     Best of luck!

  • The first go round..  I was on femara and metformin.  I never really noticed a difference with metformin.  I also had ovidrel injections on the 14th day of every month to guarentee ovulation.  We'll see. I'm so mad at myself.  I wish I would have gone to the doctor a long time ago and started all of this before now.  Instead I was so worried about my new promotion and I was exhausted from being a new mom and my focus just wasn't on my PCOS situation and I'm mad that I wasn't more proactive!  We shall see..  hopefully it goes well the second time as well. It's so frustrating.  Nothing is ever easy I guess.

Thanks for the replies.. good luck to all of you.

  • I also have PCOS with very irregular cycles. The shortest month was 33 days (medicated) and the longest was 112 (used meds to start it). Who knows when it would have come naturally?  Like some of the PP said, you can never get rid of PCOS, just manage it well with diet and exercise.

Just wanted to say Good Luck to you and Welcome back.
