Just found out friends are going through IF...

This is pretty huge for us. When EVERYONE around us seems to be popping out babies lately (seriously, two in the last week alone), it's so comforting to find someone we know who is going through almost exactly the same situation. Is that selfish? I absolutely wish neither of us had to go through any of this, but if we do, I'm glad that we finally know someone we can talk with about it (besides you lovely ladies).

They live in KY so we don't get to see them very often, but she'll be in town next weekend and we're going to try to meet up for coffee to discuss our IF issues. I think they'll be starting their first IVF in June. I'm really excited for this meeting! I can't wait to offer support and tell about the BEST place to get the much needed support and tips she'll need throughout this process...THEBUMP!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

Re: Just found out friends are going through IF...

  • I understand completely! When we moved to our new house, right after we got our diagnosis, we found out our new neighbors (who DH actually knew through work already) were also dealing with IF and went to our clinic. It was very nice to have someone to talk to about it, to b!tch about things with, someone that knew the tests and procedures and knew all of the protocols of our office (phone systems, who to call when, you know how it is!).

  • I also agree.

We have a close friend from back home going thru it as well and it was nice to have someone who understands the feelings, stresses, worries, everything IF. Someone I can complain to with out being judged. SIL also helped.

I hope you have a nice meeting!

  • I totally understand!  IF can be very isolating.  I don't think it is selfish at all.  No one really likes to be alone, and you have now found someone you can confide in who will truly understand what you are going through.  I am sure you guys will be great support systems for eachother. :)

  • I'm happy for you. It's so nice to have IRL contacts.

We know 3 couples IRL that suffer with IF. It's great to have them to talk to. We are at different places in our journeys but still they "get it". The only down fall to it is 1 of the couples wants to be where we are, but can't afford to do IVF and the hubs isn't really on board with it anyways. So it kind of became awkward while cycling, because she was happy for us but sad for her. It broke my heart to cause anyone in IF additional pain. So that became a tough situation and we quit discussing it and updating them with what we were doing. But I know she cares...

Best wishes with your meeting. I hope the two of you find great comfort in one another. And we'll hope to see her on the IF board soon :)

  • I hear ya.  We had just recently found out that our next-door neighbors were going through IF and actually go to the same clinic we did.  Of course it was right before we found out I was pregnant.  I actually ran into her at the clinic on my graduation day and it was bittersweet.  Nice to have found someone else going through it and then here we are moving on and they're starting IVF.  I wish we had realized what we were both going through sooner so we could've been a better support to each other.

  • We recently found out that our neighbor a few houses down has undergone IVF five different times. They went to the same clinic we are currently going to. They were successful two out of five times. It's nice to to actually see the success, not just read about it on paper.
