The social worker at our hospiptal suggested we apply for Social Security Income due to DD's prematurity and IUGR.
I called and we know that we won't qualify for actual income but DD might be able to get medicade which would be such a relief after seeing her NICU for the first 3 days....and now we are on day 12!
I filled out the online application and we have a phone interview next week.
Has anyone else received help for these reasons? Has anyone applied and been shot down? I guess I am just wondering what I should expect?
Thanks Ladies!
Re: SSI?
Our social worker pre filled out SSI forms for the twins the day after birth and had us just sign. They qualiy automatically while they are in the NICU, once they are discharged it will be based on income and we are not sure if they will qualify.
We also recently applies for medical assistance because even with DH's coverage the bills are still hedry. We were approved for that as well. We may not qualify any longer after discharge but we will see.
My sister works for a pedi's office and informed me that in NY they HAVE to take SSI patients if it's disability based(which I am sure IUGR is) not income. You might want to try it from that angle?
