Baby confessions...

I never strap DD into her high chair at home. At restaurants, yes, but at home, never. I put push her tray in tight to keep her snug in there and I'm never more than 4 feet away so I figure why bother?

Today I watched a friend's toddler for a few hours. DD and her played so well together (i.e. didn't care if I was playing along/speaking/laughing/whatever) that at one point I let them play in the ball pit while I sat and flipped through a magazine. I was just a few feet away and kept looking up to check on them, but I read a magazine for about 20 minutes. I haven't done that in months!!!!!

I've stopped changing her dirty shirts when we're home and not going anywhere. Way too much laundry. The other day, I had to answer the door with my kiddo in full on dirty shirt, I'm talking more-food-on-my-shirt-than-in-my-mouth kinda dirty and was so embarrassed that it was a neighbor and not the UPS man as I anticipated.

My kid likes to put sit on the floor, take her goldfish or whatever out of the snack container, place them on the floor and THEN eat them. I've tried to stop her. Even if I take them out and put them on the table, the throws them on the floor to eat them. So now I am forced to sweep and mop far more often that I like too. Wish we could afford for the maid to come twice a week instead of twice a month. Or maybe daily...then I wouldn't feel so bad that she eats off the floor.

I feel better. Stellar mom? No, but I do the best I can. Anyone have some confessions to add?

Re: Baby confessions...

  • I put my baby down for a nap with a wet diaper today, she fell asleep nursing and I wasn't about to wake her  just to change her.  She slept 1.5 hours after that, it was worth it.

My baby girl has tasted far too many grown up things that I didn't let DD#1 have until she was much older.  Yes, my husband did let her taste cotton candy tonight.

I took the child locks off of the back door so DD#1 could let the dog out for me. She desperately wanted to and well, it's helpful for me when I'm stuck on the sofa nursing or in the middle of something.

  • I love this "confession" and think it's great!  You're a "real" mom and it makes me feel better that when my time comes, I won't have to stress myself out at trying to be perfect!  I think babies/children are more resilient than some people think and you can't get too worked up about guarding them 24/7.  Goodness...think about how our moms raised us and we survived!  There certainly weren't all these new rules about what you should and shouldn't do like there are today.

Keep up the good work! Yes

  • I never used the straps on anything at home....  except the bouncy seat because they would slide down...

I bribe my kids to be good in public with lolly pops...  It's the only way I can grocery shop, show a house, run to the title co, run into my office with them.

I let my kids have lemonade when we go out to eat.

I let Luca ride his bike in our gated and fenced driveway without 100% supervision.  I can see him through the window, but I don't always sit out there with him.

I've lengthened the time between diaper changes.

When Luca hits Lila I tell her to hit him back.

I made up a big lie about diapers and the garbage man to try to get Luca to use the potty.  I went as far as to say that he will bring him a cement mixer (that cost $100) when he doesn't see any more diapers in the garbage can.  I also bribe him with candy...  Heck, I'd buy him a car at this point!

    my list gets longer.

  • Oh how I wish I could bribe my dd with candy/food to be able to shop!! She's just not that interested in food so it'll work for a couple of minutes and then she chucks it :(. I do use it to get her into her car seat though. :). We also use the portable DVD player to get her into bed sometimes. I let her have sprite. Sometimes (well probably a lot of times) she eats stuff that's fallen on the floor. The list could go on & on...
  • My child does not eat anything for dinner other than a pbj or dinosaur chicken nuggets (he will eat cheddar cheese cubes and apple sauce or yogurt as side dishes).

The other night I bribed my 5 yr old nephew with a $1 bill if he'd get Joe to eat meatloaf. It worked!!! Joe has asked for meatloaf a few times since also ;-) ;-)

  • I never use the straps on anything at home either. Well, like bpaullo said, I used them on the bouncy seat because he would slide off. I also used to put the bouncy seat on the kitchen table. He hated to be on the floor.

I try to feed Evan healthy food, but he just isn't interested and throws everything on the floor. Instead of getting him something else to eat, I get frustrated and tell him the meal is over. I figure if he is really hungry he will eat. There are some days he only eats yogurt and his formula. Maybe a piece of fruit and a cracker too.

Since we have had to push back his 12 month appointment at least 3 times because of recurring ear infections, Evan is still on formula. I just am not ready to make the transition to milk until we get everything else settled.

When Evan is being difficult and getting into everything at home I take him to go run an errand. I can only take redirecting him so many times before I reach my breaking point.

I have been making excuses for his less-than-wonderful behavior recently. I blame the teething, ear aches, and lack of sleep. I'm positive if he was feeling better he wouldn't throw temper tantrums. I have also been giving him his paci more because of this.

  • I also never use the highchair straps.

Other than nuts, I let family members give Cooper just about anything.  Ice cream tops their list, but it won't kill him.  Plus, then I can give him ice cream (and use it as an excuse to get it for myself).

We may or may not watch just a bit too much Mickey Mouse.  When we were sick I think he watched 5 episodes in a row.  Some days, I'd pay him to watch more.

  • This poll definitely makes me feel in good company with my Mommy skills :)

I also never use the highchair straps.

Mealtimes are pretty boring here as well.  We have lots of mac n cheese, fruit, pancakes, yogurt, finger food snacks and scrambled eggs, but I guess that's decent for a toddler.

I let DD have the Chick Fil A kids meal...with the fries!

DD is obsessed with Chica on the Sprout Channel and I may or may not have downloaded podcasts to my iphone so she can watch her beloved Chica in the stroller while I get some errands done.  When the snacks run out and I have things to do outside of the house, I am desperate :) I also use Chica to help me with BAD diaper changes since she will not stay still for them and I don't want to risk a mess.

She dropped her paci on the living room floor today, picked it up and put it back in her mouth and I didn't take it away to wash it.

Allow me to make you feel even better...

I've been known to give DD the same thing for lunch and dinner. I try to be creative with meals but it's not working. And I think veggie puffs have made me lazy in trying to get her to eat more vegetables (other than peas, carrots, and zucchini).

I stopped rinsing off her paci (other than if it fell outside of the home or on the bathroom floor) months ago. At home, it used to drag behind her while she crawled...

And DD loves CFA. She knows the bag...gets all excited. I do get her the fruit though...but if she acts up I give her fries because she loves them and it will keep her quiet.

What are veggie puffs? I must find them and try them. The only way Evan eats veggies right now is in Happy Tots (organic purees for tots in a bag he can drink from) or in Veggie Mum-mums or Wagon Wheels. Not really the best source of nutrition.

And I haven't washed his paci for months. I even gave it back to him after it fell on the ground outside because he was eating dirt the second before and I didn't think it was any worse. My kid doesn't really like food, but he loves to eat leaves and dirt.

  • oh darn girls...

    I never strapped Joe in.

I let him play outside with the door open, (so I can hear him) and I don't have a gated driveway.

I have let him have coke.  GASP.

I bribe him daily to get him dressed.  DAILY!

Plum Baby makes them - they are a vegetable and fruit puff. They come in several colors with matching veggies/fruits. The green is spinach and apple, the orange is sweet potato and mango, etc. I get all the different colors but mostly the green ones.

Tonight though, she ate green beans like it was candy. Who is this kid?

Awesome, thanks. Evan likes the Plum Baby food - he can feed himself from the pouch so maybe he will like these. That is awesome she was diggin' the green beans! I think they like to keep us on our toes.
