I started having pre-labor Friday night. I was having lots of contractions, but nothing regular or timeable. This continued all day Saturday. I was monitoring my BP at home due to hypertension and by the afternoon I noticed my BP was starting to get really high. By 10:00 it had reached 145/105. I called the OB exchange and luckily my dr was on call. He had me head to L&D for lab tests.
We arrived at L&D fully expecting to pee in a cup, have some bloodwork run, and be sent home. The nurses even had my discharge papers ready to go because -of course- my BP started dropping as soon as I arrived. My doctor decided that we'd done this enough times and it was time to take the baby.
I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes but was still not dilated. They gave me a suppository (can't remember) the name that was supposed to soften and dilate my cervix. The resident that inserted it was horrible. It took him forever and it was extremely painful. And 3 hours later the nurse discovered he didn't insert it correctly and we had to take it out and start over again.
I ended up overreacting to the medication. I basically had one solid contraction for 2 hours straight. With no pain medication. I have never experienced that level of pain in my life. They removed the suppository and gave me medicine to stop the contractions. A few hours later I started contracting on my own again, 2-3 minutes apart.
After 14 hours of labor, and one awesome epidural, I still had not dilated. My doctor gave me the option of trying for 6 more hours or a c-section. I was done at that point and opted for the c-section. Within minutes i was wheeled to the OR and Sawyer was my outside baby.
Honestly, it was not as bad as expected. The worst part was all the medicine made me so drowsy that I had a hard time staying awake while they cleaned him up and weighed him. Born at 37 weeks 5 days he weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds 8 ounces.
We are so in love with our little man. And so grateful he is healthy.
