Does DH go with you to ET?

Story :

My nurse gave me a time line with max/min days on BC and max/min days of stims.

Only one combo DH will be here for the ET, the other 3 he will not.

If I recall, you are on bedrest after ET, correct?

Thank you for your help!

Re: Does DH go with you to ET?

  • DH did go w/ me to ET?

I was given Valium the day of my ET so I had to have someone drive me home. I could have went w/out taking the Valium, but I think it helped me when I found out we only had one crappy embryo to transfer.

The entire day was pretty emotional and I don?t think I could have gone through it w/out DH being w/ me.

After 3 years of infertility we were blessed with twin girls through private infant adoption.

This is what I told my nurse who said I completely undestand wanting him there...DH is all  - do you really need me. I said physically, no, but emotionally and mentally, yes.

This exactly (down to the valium!). Also we do have a 3+ hour drive to the clinic so DH almost always goes with me when I have to go up to the main clinic...

  • At my old RE, DH didn't go to either of my 2 ETs.  DH couldn't come since he was OOT for work, so I asked them about it.  They said if someone drove me, I could take the valium beforehand, but if not, I'd have to wait until I got home to take the valium.... they said that would have been fine.  However, my mom drove me.   The only thing was that DH and I agreed how many we thought we wanted to transfer ahead of time and that was 2.  However, given our craptastic embryos and the fact that we did a 3 day transfer, when I got there, they showed me the stats and 3 really seemed like the way to go, so I called him and explained the stats to him and he agreed to go with 3.  I had to sign a form saying how many I wanted to transfer.  There was a line for DH to sign as well, so the nurse put a note that I called him.

We are now seeing a new RE for IVF #3.  I haven't asked their policy on if DH is required to attend ET, so I should probably do that since it is soon.  However, I know DH won't be OOT for work.  But since we moved to Indy, my mom is no longer in town, so that won't be an option.

    Good luck to you!!

This. I knew I wanted him there for emotional and physical support. I don't think I could have done this without him. In his words, he says if we were conceiving the "old fashioned" way he would be present, so why wouldn't he be present for conception in this way. Make sense? :)

  • For my OE cycles, DH went with me. My clinic gave me valium so someone would have to be with me to drive.

For DE, we are cycling out of state. It is hard for both of us to leave work for several days, so I go alone.  That clinic doesn't give valium, so I am fine to drive. It is much better when DH can be with me.

  • DH comes with me as long as his work schedule permits.  I've had 5 ETs and I think he's been at 3.  I love having him with me for it, but if he can't come, it's okay.  I took valium for the first two transfers, so he was there to drive me.  But, I don't take the valium anymore, so if he can't make it, I am okay to drive.

My clinic only requires that you take it easy after ET.  If DH is not with me, I drive the hour home and then just relax on the couch till he gets home from work.

Correct, that's ER. My husband was there'd and I think I will want him to be there on any subsequent cycles. Yes anyone could have driven me home, but my mom wouldn't have understood making me laugh afterward just because of some Israli clowns in a study, and she probably wouldnt have thought to read to me to help calm my nerves in the wait after or have thought to give me headphones so I had something soothing to listen to during the procedure. DH was basically amazing at ET and he'll never get out of going in the future because of it :)

  • I have had 4 ETs in my life.  Three of them DH came to and one of them he did not.  I did just fine with the one he did not come to (although I prefer him to be there). I drove myself home (never have I been offered medication during an ET and can't really understand why one would need it) and went on 24 hours of bedrest with each.  I have been pregnant 3 out of the 4 ETs and one of them was the one I was by myself.

  • DH does go with me, but my clinic (and you and I go to the same clinic) doesn't give valium so I could go alone if DH couldn't make.  We actually thought that might happen this last time.  It wouldn't have been ideal (just because of the emotional aspect) but we could've dealt with it.
