So....what time of day is best to pee on the OP stick? I have the ClearBlue Digital OPK which I'm about to attempt to use in conjunction with charting, but I've seen contradicting "directions" on when to pee on the stick. The directions that came with the kit indicate that the best time might be to pee on it first thing in the morning (presumably so that you haven't peed in at least four hours, which is apparently important), while on Fertility Friend it says:
Follow the manufacturer's instructions about the time to take your OPK. First morning urine is usually not the best for OPKs since your LH surge usually begins in early morning when you are still sleeping and may not be apparent in your first morning urine. If you test in the early morning, you may miss your surge entirely since LH levels may already be reduced by the next morning. Late morning or early afternoon is usually best unless the instructions suggest otherwise.I can't imagine going four hours without peeing during my normal day (not like I've never done it), so.....advice? I haven't used one yet, but I'm thinking today might be the day since I'm on day 10 of my cycle.
Re: When to pee on OPK?
IVF #1 with ICSI - ER 1/20 (16R, 12M, 10F), ET 1/23 (1-10 cell and 1-8cell transferred), BFP on 1/31 Beta #1 on 2/3 = 68, Beta #2 on 2/6 = 261 EDD 10/12/12
If the OPK's you picked up have directions, follow the directions it came with. I usually do an OPK 2 x's a day during my fertile window. once with FMU and another in the afternoon around 4pm, but I use the cheapies I got from amazon. HTH
ETA: Also, if you re-read what FF suggests, it tells you unless the instructions tell you otherwise.

Daysie, my problem is that the instructions don't necessarily suggest otherwise - they basically say "hey a lot of people pee on it first thing in the morning because it's convenient, but do what works best for you".....
Do most of you who don't do it first thing in the morning, do you make sure not to go for four hours before peeing on it (especially to you who use the ClearBlue digital)? Or do you just do what you need to do?
I know I'm reading too much into it, but just figured I'd ask before I go forth!
If you're not charting, you won't know you've missed O until AF makes an appearance. I think testing 3-4 times a day is more than anyone needs to. I test twice a day, some ladies test once a day. I've heard of short surges but I don't think you need to test that often.
That sounds like using FMU is ok for that brand then. And most of the time you should hold your pee for as close to 4 hours as possible so it's not diluted from whatever you've been drinking. I think most of the woman suggest testing 2 x's a day and that seems to work and most woman catch their surge that way. I think at this point the best thing to do is start trying it to see what times work best for you and when you can catch your surge. There have been times I even test 3 x's a day. You just have to find out what works out best for you! GL!
Thank you all for your advice - honestly, it never dawned on me to even test more than once a day, so that's good to know, too.
Man, this baby planning stuff is complicated!
I just started temping this morning (this is our first cycle) so I have no clue whether I've O'd or not so we've just been BDing a lot lol. I will just stick with once in the am and once in the afternoon then if it's silly to test that much. I guess if I don't catch a surge by next week, I probably missed it, huh? Thank you!

I usually wake up, go to the bathroom and then try to hold it for up to 4 hours and test with my second bathroom trip. I usually test once a day but I have tested around 4 in the afternoon as well just to make sure.
Good luck!
