Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

My very long story

I have read many stories on here that have helped answer some of the many many questions that come along with miscarriages and d&c's.  I wanted to share my story so that maybe it could help someone else.

Background info: I have had two healthy, completely normal full term pregnancies.  2007 and 2009.

Fast forward to October 2010 and I am pregnant with twins!  They were mo-mo twins so they told us to prepare for the worst and that we likely would not make it out of the first trimester.  We didn't.  I lost them at almost 8 weeks.  I had a d&c the same day.  Was given methergine to take.  Bled for only 4 days.  30 days later I got my first period.

January 19 found out we were pregnant again.  Everything was going fine.  Heartbeat of 158 seen at 8 weeks!  At 10 week check up there was no heartbeat.  Lost this baby at 9 weeks 1 day.  I had a d&c a week later.  This time I did not get methergine.  I bled for 3.5 weeks.  This bleeding was rough!  I had horrible cramps and clotting.  I have been to the ER once for passing "larger than golf ball" sized clots and at my OB's office for repeat ultrasounds to make sure nothing was left.  We are following my levels down to 0 and last week they were at 42.

I got my period 5 weeks after surgery and only a week and a half after the spotting had stopped.  It has been heavy with some large clots here and there.

They did the RPL tests.  So far I have had my ANA come back positive, found out I am compound heterozygous MTHFR with normal homocysteine levels, and we are waiting to hear back on one more test.  I am seeing my OB, a RE, and I see a rheumatologist on Wednesday to follow up the +ANA.  The RE thinks that somewhere along the line I have started to reject my husbands part of the pregnancy and that is why we lost this one.  They have started me on folic acid, a prenatal vit, and a baby aspirin daily.  I am told we will do Heparin with the next pregnancy.

Anyway this has been a very long road and I know its not over yet!  I just wanted to share in case anyone else has a similar story.  I like to read other women's experiences.

If your still reading then thank you! Sorry its so long.  And if you have any questions I certainly dont mind answering them.  Although all of this is new to me so I might not have the best answers!

  • I'm so sorry for your losses. Thank you for sharing your story - for some reason it does help to read other women's stories. Reminds me that I'm not alone I guess. And for me it helps to tell my story too.

I hope that you're able to have a successful pregnancy next time with help from your doctor.

  • Thank you to those who commented.  It does feel nice to be surrounded by other women who understand and get what I am going through.  Although I wish none of us knew this!

We do have a plan in place.  They said wait 3 cycles and then we could try.  The doctors said that with the medicine we have a greater than 90% chance of a successful outcome.  The RE refers to me as an "easy fix".  While all of that is nice to hear, I am scared to death of trying again.  They make it sound so easy but for me I am still in the middle of this loss.  I cant see anything about any of it being an "easy fix".  I still see doom and gloom.  I am not sure if I will be ready when our 3 cycles are up.
