Creative Ideas for Meals after Baby is Born

Anyone have any creative ideas for meals to bring to people right after the baby is born? I am looking for some new ideas.

TIA

Re: Creative Ideas for Meals after Baby is Born

  • I blogged some recipes that I cooked and froze before baby was born.  I know that's not really what you're asking for, but I would recommend taking any of those to new parents- I know I would have liked them!  :)

  • I always struggle with this!  These really aren't creative at all - just my go to ideas when I can't think of anything else.

Cheesy Garlic Chicken is always a hit.  You can prepare it, put it in the fridge in a disposable foil pan, and then drop it off with the new mom.  She can pop it into the oven 30-40 minutes before dinner time and have a hot, yummy dinner to serve that everyone will like.  I take that with a green salad, bread, and some sort of side (veggies, rice, potatoes, etc.).  I always take dessert too - cookies or brownies (something easy), because I always loved it when people included dessert in my dinners.

Super boring, but roasted whole chicken is a safe option.  I make it myself, but you can always buy those rotisserie chickens if you're in a pinch for time.  That, or roasted rosemary/lemon bone in chicken breasts (prepare, put in pan, and deliver to the mom for her to pop into oven when they're ready to eat).

I find that most people bring some sort of lasagna/pasta/casserole sort of dish, so anything that isn't that can be considered "creative."  :-)

  • A few of my faves were: chicken with mashed potatoes, and a side of veggies; chicken marsala, salad, veggies; those whole baked chickens; homemade soup. I got a lot of pasta dishes and cassirole dishes too. Everything was yummy and welcomed but I loved it when people remembered a veggie or salad.
  • I know it's not creative but right now with the weather being so nice I loved a good cold pasta salad.  Mel made me a great one when I had Simon and I remember thinking it was a good thing to have (with a nice cold glass of Chardonnay!).  You don't even need a recipe, just pack it full of fresh veggies and then used bottled salad dressing.  Easy!

  • I would ask her what she was in the mood for .

  • We got some homemade pot pies that were soo good!  She just made them with everything cooked already and then put the pie dough on top and froze them.  We popped them in the oven and they were ready to go...yum!

Ditto remembering a veggie or salad of some kind too.  We got so bogged down by casseroles and it was hard to get out to the grocery store in those first few weeks.

  • Thanks for all the great suggestions! I will definitely bring the salad and dessert. I loved getting that as well :)
