Two Under 2

Did you tear with your second?

I realize this is a completely unscientific way to do my research, but if you delivered both of your DC's vaginally, did you tear with the second?  Was it worse, better, or the same as your first delivery?  I thought about making a clicky, but realized the answers could be all over the board.  So...tell me your experience!!

Re: Did you tear with your second?

  • I dont want to scare you, but yes I did, and it was terrible. I will spare you the details, unless you want to hear them. With my first they cut me, and that was great...I had no issues.

  • Yes, and it was worse than with my first. I was much more efficient with pushing the second time and she just came out way too fast. I had a first degree tear with my first and a second degree tear with my second.

  • Yes, I tore with both deliveries. But the second was much better than the first. And the PP healing was much quicker the second time around.

  •  I just had a "skid mark" as he called it...lol. It was like a scratch that required 1/2 a stitch. I had a 1st degree with DD#1
  • I had a 3rd degree tear the first time and a 1st degree the second time. Big difference. My recovery was far easier the second time. A pp mentioned pushing too quickly and tearing. My dh is a Dr and he was down there looking and said if the OB had me wait a little longer, I probably would have stretched and not torn at all. For baby #3, I'm really going to try for no tearing.

  • I did not tear, and the labor was easier with DD2, although I did have a pp hemorrhage and lost quite a bit of blood before they stabilized me.

DD1: 21 hours of ACTIVE labor.  She was sunny-side up, came out with one fist at her chin, and I had two small tears, only one of which required stitches.

DD2: 13 hours of active labor.  She came out with both fists at her chin, and I pushed her out so fast my mw was positive I had a major tear.  But I didn't tear at all!

  • Didn't tear with either one.  credit all goes to my midwife who helped stretch and tell me when to push.
  • I had both my dds naturally, (son was c-section-firstborn) and my oldest dd tore me to pieces! I dont even know how many stitches I ended up with, but it took so long long to heal. With dd number two, nothing!! I dont know if it was becasue i had done it before or because she was a preemie and only weighed 5 lbs. But Im sure it was bit of both!

  • I didn't tear at all with my second.  I had a 2nd degree tear with my first and about 8 stitches.  My second was almost a pound bigger and I had a few abrasions but no tearing.

  • I had an episiotomy with DD1 but there wasn't time for one with DD2!  I pushed for about 10 seconds and out she came.  I tore all the way up to my clitoris.  You want to talk about sore privates?  I couldn't walk for a month.  Ha!
