Dh and I are looking for a double stroller since DD will be 17 months when this LO is born. We have narrowed it down to 3 types. We can't, nor do we want to, spend a bunch of money on one...like under $300 would be best. The 3 we like are (in order from 1st option to 3rd)
1. Kolcraft Contours Options II Tandem
pros: seats can be 6 different ways, both seats recline, easy to steer, lightweight as far as doubles go
cons: have to buy adapter, no snack trays for kids
2. Baby Trend Sit N Stand Double
pros: can be used a little longer as the back seat turns into the standing portion, has snack trays for both kids
cons: seats dont change, not sure we LOVE it
3. Graco Quattro Tour Duo
pros: already have matching carseat
cons: HEAVY, not a lot of options, no snack trays for kids
We have a graco travel system from our first child so we already have that carseat, but I know that we can buy an adapter for it to fit pretty much any stroller.
So any suggestions? Thoughts? Other opinions? Also, if there is something else out there that Im not aware of please let me know (under $300)! Thanks!
Re: Narrowed it down to 3 strollers...which one??
I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Contours (I would get a Baby Jogger, but it's just too far out of my price range!)
I read a ton of reviews on Amazon the other night and the Contours seemed like a solid option. Also, the one I was looking at did come with the infant carseat adapter - if you want a second one (like for twins), you have to purchase separately. It is a bummer that it doesn't have snack trays, but the Baby Jogger doesn't either! I thought that was crazy!
Anyway... there's my vote (oh, and my kids are 17 months apart, too)
Contours:
The adapter for the child car seat comes with the stroller. I bought mine in January. I LOVE IT!! It takes up almost my entire trunk (I have a Subaru Legacy). And, you can't fold it with both seats attached (you have to remove the seat farthest from the handles). For me that's not a big deal because they're so easy to remove.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I waited to find it on sale -- got it for $130 on Amazon.
Of your options I would probably do the Contour. I would NEVER buy a stroller just because my carseat matched it. Companies that make great carseats don't typically make the best strollers (it isn't their priority).
My suggestion though is to look for a lightly used or good deal on ebay for a stroller you LOVE. The Baby Jogger City Selects have come down a lot in price and there are lightly used 2010 models on ebay and I'm sure if you scoured Craigslist and were patient you could find something.
I just bought a BOB Duallie that had been used 3 times on Craigslist for $300. That is less than half of what a new one costs and it is seriously BRAND NEW. The straps were still stiff and the tires were still shiny. I had to drive about 90 minutes to get it, but it was worth it.
I am a huge believer that with the high-end stroller market you can find great deals and get a lightly used stroller for the same price you would spend on a new middle-market stroller. Then you have better re-sale too (which in the long run cuts down on your overall cost). The cheaper strollers don't re-sell well at all.
