Screaming At Bedtime??

Collin used to be so easy to put to bed...BUT....lately (the past few weeks) we have laid him down with his bottle (yea I know I shouldnt do that..) he drinks his bottle then gets up screeching and crying....I try to let him cry for about 7 minutes...but he seems to not be calming himself down. It seems the only way we can get him to sleep is to A. Let him stay up later (Which means that I do not get any housework done or craft projects done) or B. Rock him till he is out cold. Even the slightest movement or trying to transfer to the crib too early and he is wide awake and screeching again.

Anyone else experience this???

  • Garrison did that around that same age and I feel like someone said it was separation anxiety.  I could be wrong, but you aren't alone.

  • I'm defininitely going through this right now. I think it's more because I moved DD to her own room and out of mine but still. I want to pull my hair out! She's going mad! I'm glad I'm not alone.

  • Do you think he could be teething? Maybe some ibuprofen would help? just a though. I'm sorry, it sounds pretty stressful.

  • We had a few nights of this and/or P waking up in the wee hours, nursing, then staying up for 2+ hours before going back down.  I chalked it up to teething as he got two more bottom ones in a week or so later.

Also don't know if you are the only caregiver but I've noticed P has taken to crying a lot more before he's asleep (both for naps and at nighttime) ever since I found out both grandpa and grand-auntie hold him until he's asleep for naps when they watch him... sigh.

  • Oh I thought of another thing. When I see kids around this age that are waking up in the night and not going back to sleep the first thing I ask the parents is how they fall asleep, becasue if they don't fall asleep IN the crib then chances are they will wake up and want to be back in mama's arms. I think that may be what is happening here, but it's happening right away.  One possibility is that he needs to start falling asleep in the crib, rather than in your arms. Sleep lady shuffle is a good method that I like.
