Has anyone out there succesfully had a water birth at a local K.C. hospital. I delivered my first baby at NKC Hospital with Dr. Rosbrugh form Heartland Womens. It wasn't a bad experience, but wasn't really the natural birth experience I wanted. I've heard rumors that Reserach Medical Center in midtown allows water births but it is dependent upon the ob/midwife provider.
So has anyone had a water birth or a more natural birth (allowed to move around, didn't have to do all the pushing on your back) in a hospital setting in the K.C. area? It seems like the options are extremely limited here in K.C.
Thanks!
Re: Water birth/natural birth options in K.C.?
Have you considered the birth center? Or even a homebirth? When I had my first daughter, I delivered with a very naturally friendly doc at Olathe Med. At the time, I'd say it was probably one of the most if not the most naturally friendly hospital in KC. However, that doctor was in a way pushed out of the hospital. I've heard good things about the midwives that deliver at Research. Unfortunately I was going for a VBAC so they weren't an option for me. Also, I think Dr. Bohon's group who deliver at St. Luke's on the plaza are naturally minded...at least they were supportive of VBAC. When I toured St. Luke's, I was not impressed...though they might have renovated since my 2nd daughter was born. They just have one tub for the whole delivery floor. Olathe has large tubs in each room (with exception to c-section rooms). However, they don't want you delivering in the tubs.
I had a homebirth with my 2nd daughter and it was the most amazing experience of my life. I never thought in a million years that I would have a baby at home, but it was my best option. Just wanted to throw that in.
There is going to be a new birth center opening in OP this summer, here's more info https://www.newbirthcompany.com.
Good luck!
