Need some daycare recommendations - Monroe/WC area

This might sound a little disjointed, because we just found out that Alex's daycare is closing June 30. While I understand we still have about 2 months to find a new one, I'm a little nervous because he'll still (most likely) be in the infant room for another 6 months and I know there can be a wait for those spots.

I live in Monroe, work in WC and our daycare is SUPER convenient and inexpensive ($188) a week. Our main concern is money. We can't really afford to spend $250-300 a week. Most of Alex's teachers are amazing, and I'm trying not to freak out right now.

Any suggestions? We only looked at a few when we were first looking, because the daycare now is in the same 'community' my SIL works in (it's a retirement community that has a daycare in it), and our nieces also go to the daycare. So now I feel like I'm starting all over.

  • How old is your son now? My in-home daycare is currently accepting toddlers (2 years and older).

  • What about offering one of his current teachers a private job? Win-Win.
  • I'll 2nd gemduncan's reco..  she's definitely someone worth keeping in your thoughts (but I don't think you meet the age req yet).  She's an old family friend and one of the few non-family people DH and I would trust.

We thought about that. But strangely enough, I don't know how I feel about in home, one on one. I know that sounds weird. I like the socialization he gets, and other things that come with a daycare setting. But we might have to entertain that idea. My SIL (who has 2 at the day care) is thinking about that, so maybe we'll go in with her on that!

    Kel and Gem - he's only 10 months : (

  • I highly recommend the Goddard schools.  They are pricey, but worth every cent IMO.  I had a bad experience with in home care, and would never go back.  I love Goddard.  They have helped us undo all the bad stuff, and DD is thriving in their care.  They are kind of structured for learning, and operate on a curriculum, even for the bitty ones.  I will be so sad when it is time to move on to kindergarten.

  • No recos, but are you talking about the daycare inside the retirement home that's actually in Monroe right off exit 29? I can't believe that is closing! A friend of mine had her son in there for awhile. I would be freaking out, too! I hope you find something that works for you. Not all centers are ridiculously expensive, so try not to panic. Leah goes to a very nice center and we pay $200 a week, and there were more inexpensive centers around.

  • I sent you a FB mail.
  • Kel - thanks, I replied. Teacherjess - it's probably the same place. My SIL found out tonight. Sounds like staff will find out tomorrow, and I'm guessing families will be told by the end of the week. It sucks all around, for families and staff : (

  • Hello!

Due to professional restrictions, I can't provide my opinion about the daycares in your area, but I can list for you some of the daycares that are used by other families in the MLSD, so that you can investigate them if you haven't already. Some are farther from Monroe than others. In no particular order:

    Atrium Family YMCA: https://www.gmvymca.org/atrium/

The Goddard School on Princeton Glendale Road

    Childtime on Cold Water Drive

    HTH! GL!
