1st Trimester

When did it start to feel real for you?

I got my bfp yesterday, and based on lmp I am 4 weeks and 1 day today. I took another test today, and sure enough I got another positive.

It just doesn't feel real yet. Maybe it's because my symptoms are only some slight cramping, peeing a bit more, and napping a bit. It was only our 3rd month TTC and I was mentally prepared for it to take up to a year, so I wonder if its cus I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. I'm going to try and get in with the doctor on Wednesday and go from there. I think I'll feel better once I have my first ultrasound and actually see and hear the heartbeat which I know I probably won't have for a few weeks. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy! We want this, I guess I'm scared to believe it until then.

So my question to you first tri ladies is, when did it start to feel real for you?

Re: When did it start to feel real for you?

  • I am in the same boat as you, I just got my bfp on Thurs and I have taken a test every day since then.  The only symptom that I really having is my boobs are killing me and I am starting to pee more often.  It was also our 3rd month ttc, so I was very surprised for it to happen this quickly.  It doesn't feel real to me either.  I am so jealous that you get to go to the dr so quickly!   I called to make my appt with a new OB and they won't see me until I am 8 weeks, so my appt is not until May 19th!  I am hoping that it starts to feel real soon, but I don't think it will until I hear that sweet little heart beat!

  • I am in the same boat as you ladies...got my BFP on Thursday.  We were not going to tell anyone until after out appointment, but I am really bad at secrets..I have only told a couple people but it seems like each time I do it feels a bit more real.

I kind of wish I had more symptoms as well...I don't feel very pregnant.  Main thing is my boobs are KILLING me...I am sleeping in a sports bra at this point.  I call tomorrow to make my appointment; hopefully I can get in sooner rather then later and get the ball rolling!

  • I should be 6 weeks today...It still has not "hit" me yet..I think with our first it took a few weeks to be real too! If this is your first you may not know, but every doctor is different too..A lot of OB's wont see you until week 8-10 because before then they cant really see babys heart beat to know if everything is ok. It drove me crazy with baby #1 but this time its nice becuase I have something to look forward to and I know at my first appt I should get to see my babys heart beat.
  • I had my first ultrasound today at 10w5d..  It made it seem a little more real..  I think it will really hit me when the belly pops and I can actually feel movement..

  • For me, it was real with the first digital that read Pregnant.

However, my symptoms would show up, disappear, show up, mild out, show up again, etc. So, be patient...when you're symptoms start doing crazy things on you, you might have to re-test JUST TO BE SURE like I did! (which is silly, but I couldn't help myself...the stupid extra test I had wasn't being used anyways)

But after the sonogram, (which some people get to hear a doppler of the heart beat before their sonogram, so I'll include that as well) it gets a lot more "real."

  • For me it was more gradual - not just one moment. Each step of the way so far has been more and more real. The initial symptoms....then the m/s...first OB appt....first sonogram...seeing/hearing heartbeat (this one really did hit me)....body changing....not being able to button pants. It will sink it more and as it progresses day by day - it will become more real to you!

  • Seeing the baby's heartbeat at 7w4d made it real for me.  Oh, and yesterday when my friend gave me her storage bins filled with maternity and baby clothes. It was like, "Oh yeah, in a few weeks I'm going to need what's in this bin and in a few months I'm going to need what's in that bin!"

I can't wait until I'm visibly pregnant, though.  Now I just look like I don't miss a meal.

  • It doesn't feel real to me yet.  I don't have any obvious symptoms (other than being thirsty and needing to pee a lot) either.  I have my first appointment and u/s on Thursday, so it'll probably hit home then.

  • It always starts feeling "real" to me when I can consistenly feel the baby moving, which is end of second, for me.  Even once I start feeling the baby (which has been 14 weeks) it's not consistent, where I feel it every day.

  • it still really hasn't, nausea has been my only symptom.  I don't think it wil be "real" untill we start telling ppl, next week :)

  • Yeah it doesn't feel real for me yet either.  I just made my first appt for May 9th which I guess made it feel a little bit more real.  But I still take a HPT every day to make sure the line is still there/getting darker which it is but eventually I will have to stop that and just believe that I am pregnant.  Somehow I've convinced myself that one day the pregnancy is just going to go away and all those positive tests will have been false positives.

It does help that my boobs hurt so bad though because I never have had sore breasts in my life so its definitely something out of the ordinary and makes me "feel" pregnant.  Maybe when m/s kicks in it will feel even more real to me lol

This. I have had 3 u/s and it still doesn't always feel real. I have had very mild symptoms so I don't 'feel' pregnant with m/s etc.

  • Thanks for sharing guys!

We told his parents and my mom last night. They were both very happy, but we explained that it's still early so we're not going to tell everyone until at least 12 weeks or so. That kinda helped make it feel like a reality. I've taken a test the last 3 days since I found out, the first two days the line looked the same and today it was darker so that felt nice.

I guess the hard part is I just moved to a small town and no longer have a family doctor. I'm going to the doctor to confirm the pregnancy with them and see if I can get my foot in the door to get someone. The woman that works in the walk in clinic when she's done at her practice, and actually delivered my niece and stepdaughter so I'm going to try to appeal to her. This is the only reason I'm going to a doctor so soon. All the family doctors are full up here.

     Thanks again guys! :)

  • For me, it really started to feel real at our last appointment (10w5d).  Our LO actually looks like a baby now and watching him/her moving around on the screen really helped me to connect.  At our appointment at 634d, although we saw the bean and heard the heartbeat, baby looked like a tiny blob.  It finally has set in!!
