Trouble TTC

Career change (N3TR)

I have to tell someone since no one is around and I am really excited. I am currently the assistant director at a preschool/childcare center. I really love my job and all that comes with it but I am burned out. Its just very predictable. Same sh!t different day type stuff.

I am also in school to someday get into nursing. (not rushing anything) My original goal was be to become a L&D nurse. Well a friend of mine is a doula and I was never very interested in that nor was I very educated on what it was. I have since looked into it and it is exactly what I want to do. The hours are crazy like a nurse, and if I do it right I will have the opportunity to make some good money.

We live in a rural area about 30 miles from Reno. I have done some research and found that in the 60 mile radius of my house there are 4-5 decent sized hospitals. 2 are large.

The plus is that nursing school from this point will be about 3 years give or take. Doula training is about 4 months and much cheaper. I am so excited to get my materials to start this. Just ordered some books and registered for a workshop.

This has gotten long sorry. If you read this far here is a piece of cake.

Re: Career change (N3TR)

  • I'm right there with you!  I just quit my job to go to nursing school.  I start the 1st week of June.  I've taken all the pre-reqs over the last few years (my poli-sci degree didn't help alot!).  I definitely want to do women's health but not sure if I want to eventually be a nurse practicioner or a midwife.

I've been in sales for too long and just couldn't do it anymore.  I certainly understand burn out!

I wish you the best of luck!

  • Good for you! I so want to quit my job. I work in retail now and I'm totally burnt out. Sometimes I find it so hard to be nice to customers. Some of them are just sooooooo crazy and stupid.  They don't listen when you answer their questions. And when there is a full moon, watch out, they are nuts! I hope to find something with and regular schedule and no nights. And I hate being on my feet all day.  If or when I get KU, standing all day is gonna kill me!
