9 weeks and no US?

Well, I had my first appointment today. I feel a little let down because they just gave me more paperwork and took about 6 vials of blood. Tricare only gives two ultrasounds one at 11 weeks and one at 20 so I guess it is just a waiting game now.

  • It's normal, and you're lucky that you're getting one at 11 weeks. Tricare used to only cover one u/s.

  • I hope your wait goes by fast. It can be hard listening to all the wonderful u/s stories and seeing all the cute pics on our Board but everyone is right, this is completely normal to have to wait until around 12 weeks (that's when my first u/s is scheduled). Some ladies don't even get one until 18-20 weeks and their wait must seem like forever Sad

  • OP, like you, I was worried a few weeks ago because I felt like the only person who hasn't had an ultrasound yet. I still haven't had one, but am going in for my first tomorrow. If you are getting one at 11 weeks, you only have two more to go. Hang in there!

  • I'm also on Tricare, but using a birth center.  I will have one u/s at 20 weeks and that is it unless something is wrong.  I'd rather just have the one u/s than need others because something is not right you know?

Oh and my first appt isn't even until next week at almost 10 weeks.  :)

The wait at the beginning seems like forever, but it really does fly by at the end.

  • Thank you for the encouraging words girls. I don't mean to sound like a brat, I guess I am just jealous of all you wonderful ladies with US. I have been blessed with few symptoms so I am one of those that it will be 'real' when I can hear the heart beat.

  • Well hopefully they don't charge me for the US I had a couple weeks ago. I have tricare, and my doctor did an US at the first appointment saying tricare should cover it because I "went to the doctor due to an absence of a menstrual period" and they need to know why lol.

  • consider yourself lucky: i get only one at 20 weeks
  • We wouldn't get an ultra sound until 18-20 weeks if we did not opt for the first trimester screen.  They would of course check the heart beat at 12 weeks.  It's normal and I'm sure the 2 weeks will fly by!
