My first child I had an epidural, felt pretty bad a week after pregnancy. My second child came so fast, I did not have a chance to get one. Eventhough the
"pushing" was more intense, I recovered so much faster. Cleaned my house three days after having her. I guess what I want to know, are you choosing drugs? I hope my 3rd comes as fast a my 2nd, just so it will be over quickly and I will not get a choice.
Re: Drugs or No Drugs
my read shelf:
I was induced with my first, and I was begging for an epi about 3 hours into it. Of course right after I gotthe epi it was time to push, and I couldn't feel a thing. I ended up pushing for 2 hrs and 20 minutes, and ended up needing a vacuum assistance. I think he would have been born much sooner without the epi.
This time around I am undecided. I remember thinking at the time that the pain was unbearable, but for some reason can't remember what it actually felt like. I am hoping to not need to be induced this time around, and maybe then I will be more likely to go drug free.
Im really sensative to pain medicatiosn so I do not think me and an epi will get along very well. I am really going to try to go drug free but I know that can be especially difficult if labor has to be induced.
I also have low blood pressure which causes fainting and so I am sesitive to pain (I faint bumping my elbow lol). Hopefully increased blood volume will help prevent this at labor. In any event I will be relying heavily on my doctor to help me with the decision if the blood pressure is an issue.
This!
I was induced and didn't feel anything until they broke my water 3 hours after induction started. I only lasted an hour after the pain started. The nurse asked me 3 times if I wanted my epi and kept telling "I think I'm ok, I can breathe through them". Then she told me it would 30-40 minutes to get the anesthesiologist in and the epi placed. I was like "ok, lets go"!

I had no drugs by choice with DD #1 and wouldn't do it any other way.
When it was time to go to my postpartum room I was ready to get up and walk there myself--although the nurse insisted on me being in a wheel chair (understandaly so!)
I had an very easy recovery and loved how awake DD was from the beginning.

same here...
I was my mom's first baby and she was only in labor for 2 hours--she had no time for drugs even if she had wanted them, basically. I hope it's hereditary!
However if it's an option for me (i.e. if there's time!) I will probably want one. I have a genetic condition that can lead to hyperthermia and even seizures if I am under extreme amounts of stress and pain. So people with this condition are actually encouraged to have epidurals to avoid being under too much stress during labor, and that's fine with me.

Back in the USA...for now...
So far I've had two without drugs so I anticipate the third being the same. I'm also delivering at a birth center where there are no drugs so that pretty much seals the deal.
I'm really hoping to have an unmedicated birth.
I'm not a candidate for VBAC so for my scheduled C section I'm pretty sure I will have drugs! :-)
This post made me giggle, being able to clean the house doesn't sound like a real motivator to me! Shoot, even if you think you can, have someone ELSE clean the house when you have a newborn!!
