tell me your M/S remedies!

Instead of getting better, my m/s seems to be getting worse the further along I get.  Ugh.  No vomiting, just a general nausea that lasts all afternoon.  What have you found to be the trick to not feeling sick?  I'm already trying to eat small meals throughout the day.

Re: tell me your M/S remedies!

  • My doc told me to eat something with protein (a handful of peanuts or something like that) at least every 2 hours to keep me from feeling sick and lightheaded. And I take my PNV at bedtime.

  • I'm in the same boat. Eating every 2 hours seems to help, but it doesn't make it all go away.

  • These are just ideas-I've pretty much tried them all but you'll have to experiment to see what works for you! Gingerale, ginger tea, peppermint tea, sour candies (lemon, sour patch kids), sea bands, eat something small BEFORE you fall asleep and BEFORE you get up in the morning. Avoid super hot showers, cinammon toothpaste instead of peppermint if it makes your gag, drink smoothies if you struggle to eat anything solid.  Good luck!  Feel better-I am living it too and its no fun.
  • I've been having the same "all afternoon" nausea starting at about 8 weeks, then gradually at 10 weeks it went to all day nausea. I bought Sea-Bands which seem to help, small bouts still occur throughout the day. The all day headaches still are out of control... Tylenol, caffeine... Nothing helps, but sleep.
  • I had such a bad day with m/s today so I went to CVS and bought  the seabands, ginger gum, and B-6 100mg vitamins. I called my dr. to ask for at home-remedies and she ended up writing me a prescription for Zofran so tomorrow I will start that, but from what I hear its a life-safer!

...also I am reading that eating every 2 hours... small portions vs. eating 3 huge meals a day is better to help deal with m/s. Good luck hope this helps!

  • B6 and unisom - I also eat every 2 hours, whatever I can stomach.

I also try not to drink and eat at the same time - that seems to make it worse.

Water-based fruit seems to go down pretty easy (watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, grapes, etc.).

  • These are all remedies that I have heard of other preggo's having success with:

Ginger (tea/candy/pickled/gingerale), sour candy, green apples (sour), benadryl, unisom, and like you mentioned, eating small meals throughout the day.  My doc suggested carrying crackers around at all times, since some of the nausea can be caused by low blood sugar.

For me, the green apples were somewhat helpful, but I had to take Zofran due to constant vomiting. If you can't get through the day and are super sick, might be a good time to give your doc a call. Feel better!

  • Don't let your blood sugar get too low, meaning eat small amounts very regularly (like every 1-2 hours) and make sure you are getting some protein.

  • I could just be one of the lucky ones but I started taking B6 as a preventative and started taking my PNVs before going to bed (even w/out food.)  The only week that I felt queasy, I linked it to taking the PNVs at dinner and I've been fine ever since switching.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • I eat something small every couple of hours.  My favorite is frozen grapes - they are cold and a little sour which help with m/s.  I also wear Sea-bands which are helping for the lightheadedness and nausea every morning.  I also stay active.  It is difficult to start working out every morning, but afterward I feel a lot better.

Also, like another poster stated PNVs can cause worse m/s.  When I was pregnant with DD I discovered that my m/s was due largely to my PNVs.  I felt great on the days I had forgotten to take them the night before.  I started feeling better once I changed kinds of PNVS.

  • Eat some soda crackers right away in the morning, I also take vitamin B.

  • 2 50 mg B6 pills a day cured me! Try them, so worth it!
